Intel IAA 3.5 is an all-new driver for the Intel
ICH5R South Bridge to provide RAID level 0 and 1 functions
on two Serial ATA ports. The previous edition only
offered RAID level 0 functions.
The purpose of RAID (Redundant Array of Independent
Disks) is to enhance system performance and provide
fault tolerance by interleaving bytes or groups of
bytes across multiple drives so that more than one
disk is reading and writing at the same time.
RAID level 0
is disk striping only. It interleaves data across
two or more hard disks to provide parallel writing
and reading, which in turn increases performance.
RAID level 1 uses
disk mirroring for 100% data duplication, and it requires
at least two hard disks. The same data will be written
in both disk 1 and 2, meaning one of them is used
for data backup. Therefore, when problems arise in
one disk, the entire system can still continue normal
operation.
Furthermore, compared to the previous edition, which
only supports Windows XP, the all-new Intel IAA 3.5
supports Windows XP Home and Professional Editions
and Windows 2000 to deliver excellent flexibility
and compatibility.
