There are two types of Wi-Fi components
in a wireless network: 1) APs (access points) are expensive
standalone devices that act as base stations to connect various
computers wirelessly. 2) Client devices such as add-on cards
for desktops or PC cards for notebooks. The WiFi-g/WiFi-b™
combined the two for a cost- effective
solution. On one hand it is an add-on card that links your
desktop to existing APs. On the other hand, it bundles ASUS
Software AP to turn your system into the base station of a
wireless network.
Based on the 802.11g/b standard, the WiFi-g/WiFi-b™
has the capability to provide reliable data transfer at 54/11Mbps
to 31 wireless devices simultaneously. (Note:
Software AP is only available under Windows XP OS).
