ASUS Announces DSL-N16U N300 ADSL Modem Router

2014/03/12

ASUS today announced the DSL-N16U ADSL modem router, a feature-packed 802.11n wireless router with a built-in ADSL/ADSL2+ modem. DSL-N16U offers Wi-Fi speeds up to 300Mbit/s on the 2.4GHz wireless frequency band, and uses dual independent CPUs for the wired and wireless networking functions to ensure fast and reliable data connections. With its dual WAN (Wide Area Network) ports, users also have the flexibility of being able to connect to the internet via either an ADSL-enabled phone line, or a Gigabit Ethernet connection to an existing external modem.

Hardware NAT acceleration for supercharged data transfers

Most routers use software to perform NAT (Network Address Translation) functions when transferring data between the four Gigabit Ethernet local network connections and the internet, which can impact on the overall performance and of the router. DSL-N16U eliminates this bottleneck with its hardware-accelerated NAT, resulting in WAN-to-LAN data transfer speeds of up to 900Mbit/s, more than 4.5 times the speed of standard software-based NAT routers. This is particularly important for getting the most out of modern high-speed internet connections.

Non-stop downloads with Download Master

DSL-N16U has two USB 2.0 ports that can each be used independently for sharing printers or scanners over the network. They can also be used to turn DSL-N16U into a NAS (Network-Attached Storage) device and media server, simply by connecting any USB storage device. With a USB storage device attached, the integrated Download Master app can be used to download files to the USB storage even when all connected PCs are turned off. This saves time and energy costs, and means that large downloads can be safely left to complete unattended.

AiCloud – your own personal cloud server

The DSL-N16U also supports ASUS AiCloud, an embedded application that turns the DSL-N16U into a powerful personal cloud server. Files stored on the network, on attached USB storage devices or on ASUS WebStorage can be effortlessly synced using the ASUS Smart Sync feature, or shared with friends, colleagues or family simply by sending a link via email, SMS or most popular social networking apps. And to access your data from anywhere, you can either login to AiCloud via any web browser or use the free AiCloud app for Android and iOS devices.

Powerful features, simple setup

Setting up the DSL-N16U takes around 30 seconds — simply connect it to the network and open a web browser to start the Quick Internet Setup wizard, with no need to enter ISP details. DSL-N16U features special ADSL-related enhancements to the intuitive ASUSWRT graphical interface, inlcuding a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) measuring tool that can help customers monitor the stability of an ADSL connection. A traffic monitor shows the data sent and received via the WAN, wired and wireless networks, while a reporting tool allows customers to send feedback about connection issues directly to a technical support team, with technical log files automatically included
