ROG RAMPAGE V EDITION 10

    Editor's Choice

I want to take a second and praise the way ASUS has executed RGB LEDs on this motherboard, well most of it at least. While I can still make out individual LEDs in the IO panel shield at full brightness, the glow from the center ROG heat sink, the PCH, the PCI-E locks, and the right side rear shield is simply glamorous. While the board costs and arm and a leg, it offers very premium internal and external features, elegant aesthetics, and top shelf component quality. more

    ROG STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING

    Gold

The bottom line is that the ASUS ROG GTX 1080 STRIX GAMING tremendously outperformed both the ASUS GTX 980 Ti DC III OC and the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X. It was a landslide, not even slightly close. The new Stix consumed less power, ran cooler, and handled more graphics options than the competition while simultaneously performing at higher framerates. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on one (and stock on this card is hard to come by), the price of $679 is totally worth it. This version of the Strix 1080 is the single fastest video card we have evaluated to date, and it is decked out with incredible features. more

    ROG STRIX X99 GAMING

    Best Features Award

While the motherboard has some great features, it isn't without its pitfalls. If you want to run three cards in SLI, you will need to think about the spacing, and you can only use U.2 or M.2, not both. Like most X99 motherboards, PCH and CPU IO is limited compared to Z170, but ASUS has done a decent job of prioritizing certain features over others. Overall, this motherboard is impressive, and I am glad ASUS has created a motherboard to fit almost everyone's aesthetic preferences. more

    Motherboard
    Z170-PRO

    Dam Good Value

So where does this leave the ASUS Z170-Pro? In a pretty decent position actually. It may no longer reside in the driver's seat among its peers but for buyers who absolutely cannot stretch their budget another $30 to afford the ASUS RoG Hero or Genes of the marketplace, the Z170-Pro is still a very good choice. Just be aware of the still competition around its price point.  more

    ROG STRIX X99 GAMING

    Approved

Pricing on the ASUS ROG Strix X99 Gaming comes in at $338.99 from Newegg.com. This puts the board in company with a board I have on hand, the X99 Gaming Pro Carbon, and happen to own in the ASRock X99 OC Formula. There is some pretty stiff competition in this market segment as the price tends to fetch some great features from all parties for both the gamer, and the enthusiast. The ASUS ROG Strix X99 Gaming should be high on your list when looking in the $300 range for a gaming or overclocking motherboard.” more

    ROG STRIX X99 GAMING

    Silver

ASUS ROG STRIX X99 GAMING motherboard is a good place to start looking if a huge feature set is on your short list. You can now load up these motherboards with 10 core / 20 thread Broadwell-E powerhouse CPUs that will grind nearly any multithreaded application into dust quickly. The STRIX X99 has huge support for a bevy of storage options as well. The X99 platform is not for everyone, but if it is for you, you likely already know that. As far a pricing goes in the deep feature set X99 motherboard world the STRIX X99 is priced at modest $238 from several retailers currently and in stock. If a High End DeskTop is what you are looking for with some gamer and aesthetic features, the STRIX X99 is worthy of your consideration more

    MATRIX-GTX980TI-P-6GD5-GAMING

    Gold Award

Given the fact that a video card of this caliber is currently priced under its MSRP, and at much better pricing than the MSI LIGHTNING the ASUS MATRIX 980 Ti Platinum is clearly the better deal. It provides a similar amount of performance overclocked, for a much lower price, at least for now. The price could jump, and if it does it puts both video cards into a price range neither have any business of occupying. In terms of performance, design, quality and pricing the ASUS GTX 980 Ti MATRIX Platinum is easily worthy of our [H] Editor's Choice Gold Award more

    970 PRO GAMING/AURA

    Approved

Overall I had a very good experience with the ASUS 970 PRO Gaming/AURA. It's a well rounded motherboard with some updated features such as USB 3.1 and M.2 SSD connectivity. This should help bridge the gap until ZEN arrives and give AMD enthusiasts a much needed refresh. The 970 Pro has enough power for decent overclocks and handled itself quite nicely in my opinion. Keep in mind this is a 125W board so even running the FX-9370 at stock is impressive, let alone at 5GHz. more

    Motherboard
    Z170-WS

    Approved

ASUS has been churning out a lot of solid boards in their Z170 lineup of which the Z170 WS is one. This motherboard is a refreshing departure on color scheme from the last two generations, removing the black/gold and going to black/grey. Coming in at an MSRP of $350, as seen on Newegg, there aren't many boards more expensive than the Z170 WS, but even the vastly more expensive Maximus VIII Extreme doesn't support quad GPU's. In fact, the only other Z170 boards I see which support quad GPU's are the Z170 OC Formula and Z170X SOC Force. more
