    Silver Bear

There's a lot to love about the ASUS ROG Strix Gaming RX 480 8GB and the only down side was no voltage control on WattMan or GPU Tweak II so if you don't mind screaming gaming at 1330 MHz and leaving the OCing for the score hungry OCers the ASUS ROG Strix Gaming RX 480 8GB will serve you well and with all the luxury features you won't miss the minor boost overclocking provides.

    ROG MAXIMUS VIII FORMULA

    Gold Award

There's really only one word that describes ASUS' Maximus VIII Formula board - fierce. ASUS was able to take a winning design with their Formula and improve it to the point of perfection. The board's aesthetics and features are a well-balanced synthesis meant to appeal to a wide variety of enthusiasts and gamers alike. The over-engineered design and overclocking tools integrated give enough tools to hang with just about any board out there, while the RGB LEDs, redesigned aesthetics, and stellar integrated sound system are enough to satisfy any gamer. Further, setting up and overclocking the board were an exercise in simplicity, making for a well-rounded experience out of the box. The true feather in the board's cap was in the integration of the EK VRM liquid cooler, giving any liquid-cooling enthusiast a basis from which to build an exquisite cooling solution. more

    ROG STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING

    Recommended

The bottom line is ALL of these graphics cards kick ass. Enthusiasts will have their favorites, of course, but any one of them would be great in a high-end gaming rig. We have no trouble recommending all three, without reservations. If you put a gun to our head and made us choose one, considering all of the factors mentioned above, we'd lean towards EVGA's offering due to its competitive price, aesthetics, and the goodies thrown in, but the Gigabyte card is a good value relative to other GTX 1080 cards as well. And if money was no object, the ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 STRIX OC is a hardcore tweaker's dream GPU. more

    ROG RAMPAGE V EDITION 10

    Gold Award

The ASUS Rampage V Extreme 10 motherboard is one of the best LGA 2011-v3 motherboards have come across our test benches in quite a while. It is beautifully laid out in terms of features and design, and is great looking to boot with all the latest RGB lighting you could ask for. It performed flawlessly and proved to be an ample overclocking platform. That said, it is very much meant to be a halo product, and is priced as such at $600. more

    X99-A II

    Approved

The MSRP is competitive as well. Coming in at $229.99 it isn't the lowest for comparable feature sets, but it is definitely in line with what's expected. Currently the X99-A II is only available through third parties at Newegg and Amazon, but never fear because B&H has stock! This board gets the Overclockers Approved stamp. more

    X99-A II

    Editor's Choice

All told, I think the X99-A II offers as smooth a ride as one could want when pairing a board with one of Intel's Broadwell-E CPUs, even the range-topping Core i7-6950X. We haven't had a ton of experience with refreshed X99 boards yet—something we hope to rectify in time—but Asus' value-priced entry in its X99 refresh lineup has impressed us. Making the right revisions to a winning formula without goofing up the things that made a product great in the first place is a fine line to walk, and Asus' deft handling of that challenge makes the X99-A II an easy pick for another Editor's Choice award. more

    Motherboards
    MAXIMUS VIII EXTREME

    Gold Award

ASUS has another beast on their hands with the Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard. Holding the "Flagship" moniker for the ASUS ROG Z170 board line, the board is chock full of features and accessories including the latest edition of their OC Panel device. The Maximus VII Extreme was as pretty to look at as it was over-engineered (which also ups the aesthetic factor for me). ASUS designed the beast with a full 13 dedicated power phases for the CPU alone, meaning that the board was made to put up with anything you could throw at it and engineered for world record performance. With the exception of the CMOS battery placement, the integrated component layout was well thought out and implement with more than adequate space to use the board's numerous features.

The MSRP though, it hurts. Coming in at $419.99, for which it is currently selling atNewegg and Amazon, this is no two pence board. Other boards in this price range have similar feature sets so, even though it's high, I would say the price is in line with competition. This definitely gets the Overclockers Approved stamp. more

    ROG STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING

    Golden Bear

ASUS has a winner in the ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 8GB and at the MSRP of $448 we are seeing artificially inflated prices due to demand outstripping supply. If you think about it demand out stripping supply is a pretty good indicator to abandon the wallet and make the investment in a ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 8GB or ASUS 1080. Flying off the shelves goes beyond cold dry testing and tells you that the ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 8GB is highly desirable and widely accepted as an outstanding product

With the Rampage V Edition 10, ASUS has updated arguably one of the best, most feature inclusive boards to make it even more desirable for those wanting to get into the HEDT platform with Broadwell-E (or Haswell-E). The board will please nearly everyone with its feature set from gamers, to extreme overclockers, to productivity users. ASUS really has outclassed itself with the Rampage V Edition 10. X99-DELUXE II

    Dam Good

As we mentioned in the introduction, given how exemplary the X99-Deluxe was, we had high hopes for its successor. Thankfully, we are now happy to report that the X99-Deluxe II does everything the original did - and does it equally well - and adds a bunch of new functionality. The $420USD/$540CAD price tag is high in general terms, but this is not an overpriced motherboard by any means especially given the accessories bundle. We wouldn't hesitate to build a personal system around it, which as high a praise as you can get.  more

    ROG RAMPAGE V EDITION 10

    Editor's Choice

I want to take a second and praise the way ASUS has executed RGB LEDs on this motherboard, well most of it at least. While I can still make out individual LEDs in the IO panel shield at full brightness, the glow from the center ROG heat sink, the PCH, the PCI-E locks, and the right side rear shield is simply glamorous. While the board costs and arm and a leg, it offers very premium internal and external features, elegant aesthetics, and top shelf component quality. more

    ROG STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING

    Gold

The bottom line is that the ASUS ROG GTX 1080 STRIX GAMING tremendously outperformed both the ASUS GTX 980 Ti DC III OC and the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X. It was a landslide, not even slightly close. The new Stix consumed less power, ran cooler, and handled more graphics options than the competition while simultaneously performing at higher framerates. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on one (and stock on this card is hard to come by), the price of $679 is totally worth it. This version of the Strix 1080 is the single fastest video card we have evaluated to date, and it is decked out with incredible features. more

    ROG STRIX X99 GAMING

    Best features Award

While the motherboard has some great features, it isn't without its pitfalls. If you want to run three cards in SLI, you will need to think about the spacing, and you can only use U.2 or M.2, not both. Like most X99 motherboards, PCH and CPU IO is limited compared to Z170, but ASUS has done a decent job of prioritizing certain features over others. Overall, this motherboard is impressive, and I am glad ASUS has created a motherboard to fit almost everyone's aesthetic preferences. more
