    X99-DELUXE

    LANOC Editor's Choice Award

The software, as always, was top notch. They didn't improve on much from Z97 but the changes in how they handle auto overclocking were welcomed! The only other downside to the board really is the overall cost. At just under $400 this isn't going to be a board for everyone. Its not even that it's a bad deal, because they packed it full of features. The problem is if you spend $400 on your motherboard, $583 or even $389 for a CPU, and around $400 on ram you already have hit your bank account really hard. That is before picking up the SLI or Crossfire video cards that are going to go perfectly with this setup and everything else. BUT if you have the room in your budget the Asus X99 Deluxe is a great board to keep in mind.

    Gold Award

ROG boards often come with a price premium over other boards just because of the quality design, hardware selection, and impressive gaming-centric software package built in. At $229, the Maximus VII Hero is priced competitively in the category ASUS is targeting. For that price, it will be tough to find a board that offers more in terms of software and innovation for the gamer. If you are planning a new build based on Intel's 4th or 5th generation Core series processors and are an avid gamer, the Maximus VII Hero is calling your name. more

In the end, we have a mATX offering from ASUS that can easily perform on par with its bigger ATX/E-ATX brethren. Sure, you don't quite have all the PCI-E slots found on the larger boards, but you know that when buying into the mATX form factor. If you're thinking about an enthusiast level mATX motherboard for your next build, the ASUS Maximus VII GENE is definitely worthy of consideration. more

It is really hard to believe that this is ASUS's entry-level Z97 motherboard. Even looking back at the Z87-A, this board offers much more and you can see where ASUS made the improvements. If you are looking to get into the Z97 platform at an affordable price the Z97-A is the perfect choice. Right now you can pick up the Z97-A at my favorite online retailer for $149.99, which makes it such a great value. LanOC Recommended

My time with the Z97-A has been extremely interesting. As always I was extremely impressed with Asus's attention to detail when packing the Z97-A full of features. Typically with a low to mid ranged motherboard like this manufactures seem to try their best to put only the bear minimum in effort into everything. Asus did a great job of giving the Z97-A the best software available as well as the best UEFI BIOS. I was also really impressed with the USB 3.0 performance when using Asus's USB 3.0 Boost. more

    Z97-A

    Must Have

While a motherboard targeted for the value segment is rarely (if ever) described as overwhelming, the Z97-A is the exception to the rule. It is feature rich in ways that are not often thought of when it comes to motherboard since most of its unique capabilities are software based. I can hear the collective groan already from readers (“bundled software! bah”) but lumping in ASUS software with other motherboard software is unfair for AI Suite is in a league all its own. more

    Z97-DELUXE(NFC & WLC)

    PC PERSPECTIVE GOLD AWARD

The Z97-Deluxe is from ASUS' Channel line of motherboards, those boards that are used by OEM system builders and mid-tier enthusiasts. As such, I wouldn't have expected the design innovations present in the Z97-Deluxe's implementation. It sports a full 16+2 phase power delivery system with high-end 10K capacitors. ASUS even included the separate audio PCB that is normally reserved for their ROG line. The most obvious updates to the board when compared with the Z87-based model is in its aesthetics. ASUS perfectly matched the color scheme with the Z97-Deluxe to give the board a visual appeal that matches its performance punch. The BIOS redesign was also a very welcomed addition with much more thought put into the layout of the UEFI features as well as the use of graphical interfaces. more
