    X99-DELUXE

    Editors choice

Thanks to the fact that ASUS' X99-DELUXE brings so much to the table, it's not that hard of a board to sum-up. As I mentioned in the intro, I almost feel like this board should be called X99-ULTIMATE, because it offers a lot of what you'd expect, and then piles on a couple of extras you didn't. more

The polish that ASUS have put into the BIOS and the software is a cut above the competition, and if you are an overclocker and a tweaker - in other words anyone who's not satisfied with "default settings" - that high quality engineering work really starts to overshadow everything else. more

. At $474, the board is not for the faint of heart. You know going in that you will face a price premium for a top of the line board so sticker shock is not going to be something the target user is going to be worried about. After spending between $500 and a $1000 for a CPU, the price point is going to be there. Overall, the experience of working with the board was as I expected. You get all of the tools you need to get your hardware to perform at its highest level without compromises. more

    X99-PRO

    Approved

At the beginning of this review I asked the question – “Could this be the perfect balance between price, performance, and features?” It might not be that in everyone's eyes, but for the vast majority of people it might just be. If you're looking for a X99 motherboard that won't break the bank, but still offers the enthusiast features you want… The X99 Pro definitely needs to be on your short list. more

    RAMPAGE V EXTREME

    Gold Award

The ASUS Rampage V Extreme is a testament to the ASUS ROG line with design aesthetics and performance that mesh in an almost perfect synthesis. The board features a black and red color scheme, common to the ROG product line, with all integrated components and ports colored to mesh into the design aesthetics. ASUS also included an aluminum overlay over the rear panel and upper VRM heat sink, giving the board a more uniform look. The E-ATX form factor allowed ASUS to integrate an enormous amount of extra features into the board, making it one of the most feature-rich offerings among the Intel X99 boards from all manufacturers. Its performance is nothing to balk at with it easily meeting our expectations. This board should give you no issues no matter what you throw at it. more

At the time of writing, a quick online search shows that the street price of the ASUS X99-Deluxe is in the $370 USD range. It seems reasonable for a solid board that comes with an excellent hardware and software bundle, but beware: building a system around the X99-Deluxe will set you back a pretty penny if you actually go for the ultimate build with an Intel Core i7-5960X, a couple high end video cards, some new DDR4 memory, a blazing fast PCIe SSD, and a water cooling loop capable of taking the heat, etc. It adds up really fast folks, but the satisfaction of building such a monster rig is always priceless! more

    X99-A

    Gold Award

Drive performance on this board is well covered with both SATA Express and M.2x4 support as well as your standard compliment of SATA 6Gbps ports. This gives you the ability to not only use standard SATA drives, but move up the level of drive performance you can take advantage of, should you choose to use them. Overall, there is not a whole lot I can say negative about this board. It's a solid addition to the product stack, and a great entry point if you are looking to move up to Intels Extreme series socket 2011-v3 platform. At $254, it not going to break the bank. For that price point, you get a good looking, quality board that delivers all that it you expect. more

At $255 dollars you will be getting a top of the line X99 motherboard that supports the latest and fastest processors and memory. Typically a high end or workstation motherboard are closer to the $400 range but Asus has gracefully unveiled a budget motherboard for the user that requires high processing power. For such new hardware, specifically the DDR4 and thunderbolt, Asus has done an incredible job at unleashing a well performing motherboard packed with features and great looks. Performance wise, the X99 utilizes every ounce of power an Intel i7-5960X had available and was able to overclock it to an impressive 4.5 Ghz with minor bios tweaking and also capable of maintaining stability through an onslaught of benchmarks. more

The Maximus VII Formula certainly isn't an inexpensive motherboard, nor is it the most feature-packed around but it does offer a near-perfect balance of gaming-oriented features, price and overclocking headroom. This puts ASUS' current flagship at the very front of the current Z97 motherboard market.  more
