    RAMPAGE IV BLACK EDITION

    Dam Good

If you have the money to afford it, and the skills to make use of it, this is the best X79 motherboard on the market. In fact, the bonkers ASRock X79 Extreme11 aside, there's no one else even competing in the ultra-high-end sphere that the Rampage IV Black edition occupies. So whether you are buying this motherboard for the sleek aesthetics, the top-notch capabilities, or just the premium status, you won't be disappointed since the RIVBE is almost without flaws. more

    Motherboards
    RAMPAGE IV BLACK EDITION

    Silver

The Rampage IV Black Edition is an extremely well built motherboard with a ton of features. This motherboard currently sells for around $500 from Amazon and Tiger Direct. Obviously this motherboard is built for a very narrow segment of users and therefore it simply is not going to be even an option to buy for most enthusiasts. However, if you are part of that niche, it is likely the best X79 chipset motherboard built with more feature sets than you can shake a stick at. While Dan did not elaborate on it, he very much liked the "OC Panel - Overclocking Command Center" and just how well it worked for overclocking and controlling the motherboard. He liked the ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition so much that he is putting this motherboard in his primary system. more

    Motherboards
    A88X-PRO

    Smart Buy

ost of us probably don't care for legacy PCI, but it's hard to deny an award to the only board in this round-up that doesn't come up noticeably short on features or land on our test bench with a significant design compromise. Even after tacking-on an extra $5 for Asus-exclusive features that many users like (but don't want to pay for), and even coming up 50 MHz short of our top CPU overclock, Asus' trouble-free $115 A88X-Pro takes the win. more

    Motherboards
    Z87-EXPERT

    Editor's Choice

If you are in the need for a motherboard that has both WiFi and Thunderbolt the Z87-Expert is a great choice. Now ASUS's own Z87-Pro is pretty much the same motherboard as this, but does not have WiFi or Thunderbolt. So if you don't need those features save some money and get that board instead. Right now you can pick up the Z87-Expert at my favorite online retailer for $229.99. Overall ThinkComputers gives the ASUS Z87-Expert motherboard a 10 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award! more

    Motherboards
    MAXIMUS VI IMPACT

    Dam Good

When it comes to expectations for ITX motherboards, expectations are understandably low. If history was any indication the ASUS Maximus VI Impact would have over promised and under delivered, mostly due to an extremely small footprint constraining capabilities. Let's be honest; it's nearly impossible to cram ATX-style features onto a motherboard which is about half the size of an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper. That's not what happened as ASUS has created something special which exceeded our wildest expectations. more
