    Z170-DELUXE

    Gold Award

The ASUS Z170-Deluxe is the first Z170 Chipset motherboard we have tested, with a couple others already under our belt at the time of publishing this review. It is without a doubt the best "launch" motherboard we have ever worked with. It is a brand new platform that is extremely well built but feels like a motherboard that has been on the market for a year already. The Z170-Deluxe motherboard's Skylake overclocking abilities are excellent and it exhibits the ability to operate RAM in excess of 3600MHz at room temperatures with ease. Its feature set is solid, and its UEFI BIOS is the best in the industry. If you can find a Core i7-6700K orCore i5-6600K to purchase, there is no doubt you will be happy with a Z170-Deluxe to put it in. You can find the ASUS Z170-Deluxe today for as little as $319.99 more

    Dam Good Value

When it comes to deciding upon which motherboard to pick, the choices are often divided between what you need, what's wanted right now, what you believe you may need in the future and what fits within your budget. In our opinion, the ASUS Z170-A provides everything you could possibly need, most things someone may want, a surprising amount of future proofing and a price that will surely fit in nearly everyone's budget. There's no higher praise than that. more

ASUS set out to prove it's not necessary to spend high-end money to get high-end performance, and the Z170-A is an excellent example of this. If you're looking to build a price conscious system around the Skylake/Z170 platform, you'll definitely want to give the ASUS Z170-A a good hard look. more

The UEFI BIOS was easy to navigate, responsive, and the settings you need are intelligently organized. The amount of overclocking options are plentiful and should appease even the most seasoned enthusiasts out there. Let's not forget about the QFan control, which stands alone among its peers. more

This board will only set you back $165, which is not a bad price at all to get into the Skylake platform, especially with all of the features that ASUS was able to pack in. Overall ThinkComputers gives the ASUS Z170-A Motherboard a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award! more

    Best Overclocking

While the Maximus VIII Hero is an excellent overclocking motherboard, it also has some other noteworthy features. ASUS did a really good job with the audio, and the aesthetics of the motherboard are sure to turn heads. The Maximus VIII Hero should also be priced competitively. At around $230, it should be a very popular board because of its feature set and ROG extras. Overall, the Maximus VIII Hero impressed me with its looks, features, and performance, but on top of all that, it is a solid overclocking motherboard. more

Thanks to the fact that ASUS' X99-DELUXE brings so much to the table, it's not that hard of a board to sum-up. As I mentioned in the intro, I almost feel like this board should be called X99-ULTIMATE, because it offers a lot of what you'd expect, and then piles on a couple of extras you didn't. more

Quality wise it's great and there's nothing bad about it, but at this price point the missing detachable USB cable, USB hub and RGB lighting hurts.  If i'm paying this much, I'd rather pay a little more and have the extra features.  For these reasons despite being a good product it's not overwhelmingly compelling for everyone and therefore gets a silver award. more

Attention to detail is evident with this keyboard as well, as backlighting is well implemented and software worked very well. There are plenty of macro functions (21 keys total when you count the assignable F-keys) for a truly custom experience. Bottom line, I would have no hesitation recommending this keyboard to anyone as a solid gaming and productivity choice - as long as they like the Cherry MX Brown experience. However, while tastes may differ widely I do think MX Brown switches offer an excellent balance between performance and feel. more

Honestly they are both great mice and I've been a long term Deathadder user and fan.  I've bought two over the years and would give the Deathadder a gold award.  Having said all of this and compared the two I would still give the edge to the Gladius to win this “mouse-off” based on it's extra functionality such as the detachable cable, the socketed omron switches and the on board firmware to save the mouse's configuration.  This really as close to perfection as you can currently get in a mouse. more

So if you are on the market for a GTX 980 is the Strix the card to go for? Well for starters currently this is actually one of the cheapest cards you can get so that is a major plus. For me it is the cooling performance and the 0dB design that really sets the Strix apart though. I personally don't want my computer to sound like a wind tunnel, especially when I'm not in game. more

. At $474, the board is not for the faint of heart. You know going in that you will face a price premium for a top of the line board so sticker shock is not going to be something the target user is going to be worried about. After spending between $500 and a $1000 for a CPU, the price point is going to be there. Overall, the experience of working with the board was as I expected. Approved

We weren't able to get the MSRP for the STRIX GTX 960 at the time of publishing, but we should have that information shortly. However, given pricing we were made privy to from various sources, we'd expect this card to land anywhere from $210 to $220. If that holds true, it will be perfectly positioned between the AMD R9 280 and R9 280X. Putting two of these together for a SLI setup becomes an attractive option at that price range. You'll be well under the price of a single GTX 780 Ti or GTX 980 (around $100 in most cases), but right on par performance wise where single monitor gaming is concerned. Even if the price ends up being a little higher than what we project, it's still going to be a heck of a value. Price, performance, and a great cooler in the DirectCU II all add up to an easy upgrade path or even a good option for your next system build. more

At the beginning of this review I asked the question – “Could this be the perfect balance between price, performance, and features?” It might not be that in everyone's eyes, but for the vast majority of people it might just be. If you're looking for a X99 motherboard that won't break the bank, but still offers the enthusiast features you want… The X99 Pro definitely needs to be on your short list. more
