If it was based on looks alone, I won't stop you, as the Crosshair VIII Hero looks truly stunning from top to bottom. The winners for me though as the superb audio hardware, which can drive high-end audio devices with some serious processing power. If you care about overclocking but want to take out a lot of the stress of it, their 5-way optimisation system is in a league of its own these days too. plus

“So, in terms of performance and the range of features on offer, the Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080 OC is the best RTX 2080 on the market. Sure, it's not cheap, but ASUS has gone above and beyond to help justify that cost.” plus

“All in all the revised ASUS X399 ROG Zenith Extreme Alpha is a triumph. It would be easy enough for ASUS to have decided that the original Zenith Extreme did well enough and leave any revisions for a future model, but instead they have taken on board the needs of the high end, extreme performance enthusiasts and fixed a weakness until it's a definite strength. You need a serious amount of cash to build a system that would make fullest use of what the Zenith Extreme Alpha can bring to the party, but if you do then you'll be pleased to note it is never found wanting. Shut up MEG, the Zenith is back on top.” plus

    ROG Strix Scope

    RECOMMENDED

“There's a lot to like about the Asus ROG Strix Scope's simplicity. The lack of additional buttons and overly-fancy design means you get a compact keyboard that nails the basics. It feels comfortable to use, is responsive when playing even the most frantic games, and there's a few nice gaming-centric features as well.Just because the design is understated, it doesn't mean the keyboard looks boring. Plus, if you have other Asus Aura-compatible glowing peripherals, the Asus ROG Strix Scope will fit right in.However, the Asus ROG Strix Scope does lack a few features that similarly priced keyboards feature, and the design pales in comparison with the Roccat Vulcan 120 Aimo.Still, if you're invested in the Asus ROG peripheral ecosystem, or are just looking for a no-nonsense mechanical gaming keyboard that has a bit of design flair, then the Asus ROG Strix Scope is an excellent choice.” plus

    ROG Strix XG49VQ

    Approved

We come away feeling as though Asus has presented an appealing package in the budding world of 32:9 gaming monitors, but like all others in this segment, the ROG Strix XG49VQ is in need of developer support. With the right game, the experience can be eye-opening, but there are plenty of titles that don't look quite right when stretched to such lengths. The question mark, then, is whether or not developers are ever going to fully embrace what is currently a niche aspect ratio. Only time will tell. plus
