2014/09/01

Latest X99-based motherboard delivers extreme overclocking, precise power management, ultimate cooling and audio features to enthusiasts

Taipei, Taiwan (30th August, 2014) — ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced Rampage V Extreme, an Intel® X99 chipset-based gaming/overclocking motherboard engineered to take the latest LGA 2011-v3-socket Intel Core™ i7 (‘Haswell-E') processors and DDR4 memory to their limits.

Rampage V Extreme supports quad-channel DDR4 memory and is equipped with multiple exclusive technologies to aid extreme overclockers, including the patent-pending OC Socket, OC Panel, Safe Boot and ReTry buttons. Thanks to its ultimate overclocking design and features, ROG team has broken 28 records1 with Rampage V Extreme. It currently holds two fastest CPU benchmarks (8 Core / 16C threads and 1 Core / 1 thread), 4004MHz G.Skill DDR4 memory speed, 17 3DMark scores, along with two Catzilla, two CineBench, two Wprime, XTU, and HWBotPrime benchmarks.

Rampage V Extreme keeps its cool with the Extreme Engine Digi+ IV voltage-regulator module (VRM), DirectCU direct-contact cooling, X-Socket II and Fan Xpert 3 technologies, along with numerous intelligent onboard sensors. ROG’s new X99 motherboard takes the latest connectivity features to extremes, with dual 10Gbit/s SATA Express ports, a built-in 32Gbit/s PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 slot and 802.11ac Wi-Fi with a three-transmit, three-receive (3x3) antenna configuration.

Rampage V Extreme also includes multiple technologies to deliver best gaming experiences. SupremeFX 2014 ensures flawless audio, Intel Gigabit Ethernet and GameFirst III combine forces for no-lag networking, and KeyBot grants gamers an instant keyboard upgrade. Exclusive Gamer’s Guardian components provide multiple real-world protections for users.

Exclusive features for extreme overclocking

Rampage V Extreme is packed with exclusive technologies to unleash performance that’s truly extreme — starting with OC Socket. This exclusive processor socket utilizes extra pins to connect a proprietary circuit to contacts found on Haswell-E's land grid array (LGA). When combined with the ASUS- customized UEFI, OC Socket enables higher DDR4 memory frequencies, lower latencies and enhanced stability while overclocking, even under extreme liquid-nitrogen (LN2) overclocking. OC Socket is 100% compatible with new Haswell-E LGA 2011-3 CPUs, ensuring the ideal combination of overclocking performance and compatibility. Rampage V Extreme grants overclockers the freedom to break every performance barrier.

ROG understands overclockers better than any other manufacturer, so Rampage V Extreme includes all-new hardware-level Safe Boot and ReTry buttons to help put things right when overclocking adventures go wrong —they’re quick, easy and real time-savers.

The new motherboard also includes OC Panel, ROG’s exclusive real-time system monitoring and tweaking accessory that’s a must for all hardcore overclockers.

Installed into a 5.25-inch drive bay, OC Panel has a bright, clear 2.6-inch display that provides live monitoring of multiple vital parameters, including CPU temperature, ratios, base clock and fan speeds. The CPU Level Up button provides instant control over two-stage overclocking, while CPU fan speeds can be adjusted to Turbo, Standard and Silent modes — all these super-simple controls are placed at users’ fingertips.

Alternatively, OC Panel acts as an external overclocking console. In this mode, there are connectors and switches for exclusive ROG features including Subzero Sense, VGA SMB, VGA Hotwire, Slow Mode and Pause. It also offers access to four four-pin fans connectors, as well as remote power and reset buttons.

Pure, precise power

An extreme platform demands extreme control over the purest power, and nothing delivers more control or purer power than Extreme Engine Digi+ IV — Rampage V Extreme’s exclusive voltage-regulator module (VRM).

MicroFine alloy chokes lower overall core loss for lower temperatures, while the VRM has been upgraded with the brand-new PowIRstage®IR3555. This chip integrates the driver, high-side and low-side MOSFETs and features the latest RDS On current-sensing technology.

Extreme Engine Digi+ IV’s high-frequency pulse-width modulation (PWM) implementation scales to 1MHz, allowing the DRAM VRM to achieve a 40% increase in stability.

Ultimate compatibility, cooling and quietness

Rampage V Extreme’s three-piece X-Socket II makes easy work of mounting existing LN2 or dry-ice evaporator pots to the latest LGA2011-v3 socket. The supplied star-keyed screwdriver enables easy replacement of the LGA2011-3 backplate with X-Socket II, so users are able to super-cool with their existing evaporators.

Exclusive DirectCU cooling technology puts a more conductive copper heat-pipe in direct contact with Rampage V Extreme’s VRM. Heat is thendissipated through two large aluminum heatsinks to lower temperatures by up to 7°C.

Rampage V Extreme also includes eight 4/3-pin (PWM/DC) combo fan connectors, four intelligent onboard sensors, three additional 2-pin headers and a selection of three thermal cables. The exclusive Fan Xpert 3 advanced fan controls help users monitor the temperatures of up to seven motherboard areas and key components in real time.

Unmatched connectivity

With a built-in PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 slot, Rampage V Extreme is primed and pumped for the next generation of super-fast SSDs, for lightning-fast transfer speeds of up 32Gbit/s. With a friendly horizontal installation path and support for 60, 80 and 110mm device sizes, ROG’s new motherboard makes it easy for enthusiasts to join the data-transfer fast lane.

Two built-in SATA Express ports, backward-compatible with up to four SATA devices, means Rampage V Extreme also extends storage options, with speeds of up to 10Gbit/s.

Rampage V Extreme is also engineered with an innovative three-transmit, three-receive (3x3) 802.11ac Wi-Fi antenna configuration, right on the board. With multiple antennas zapping data, wireless speeds race as high as 1300Mbit/s (1.3Gbit/s). The design’s wide-reaching range assures strong, stable connections to even distant corners of the home or office.
