When the pandemic started in 2020, schools were forced to shut and send 1.2 billion students in 186 countries back to their homes and continue their learning remotely, using virtual platforms for lessons. While schools have already adopted some form of online learning pre-pandemic, lockdowns globally underscored the importance of education technology. It’s enabled schools to continue lessons amid one of the biggest crises in the world’s history.

The US is already embracing the benefits of hybrid learning. According to the American Enterprise Institute, 45% of K-12 schools in the US have adopted a hybrid learning approach in June 2021. Separately, a Gartner® research report¹ states that “by 2025, 25% of institutions will leverage hybrid classrooms to deliver all core teaching.” The National School Board Association (NSBA) has also called for additional funding to help schools upgrade their systems and facilitate the move towards a hybrid world. The World Economic Forum expects ‘learning anywhere anytime’ to be more widely embraced by learners and solution providers, as 5G technology becomes more prevalent in countries such as China, US and Japan.

The digital transformation of education makes it possible for schools to adopt a hybrid learning model. But this new model of learning needs to equip teachers and students with the right devices to facilitate a conducive learning environment.
