[Range Extender] How to Use the WPS Function on Your RP-AX50 Repeater?

Introduction

This FAQ provides a clear guide on utilizing the WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) feature on your RP-AX50 repeater to quickly and securely connect your client devices (such as laptops, smartphones, or smart home devices) to the repeater's extended WiFi network. For network security, the WPS feature is disabled by default. This guide will walk you through enabling WPS on your RP-AX50 and then using it to connect your client devices.

Part 1: Enabling WPS on Your RP-AX50 (If Disabled)

For security reasons, the WPS feature is disabled by default on your RP-AX50. You must enable it via the web interface before you can use the Push Button Connect (PBC) function.

Step 1: Access the RP-AX50 Web Interface

After initial setup, open a web browser on a device connected to your RP-AX50 (either wired or wirelessly) and enter the RP-AX50's IP address (http://192.168.72.1 by default or http://repeater.asus.com) to log in to its web interface.

Step 2: Navigate to Wireless Settings

Once logged in, navigate to the Settings menu, then select Wireless.

Step 3: Enable WPS

Within the Wireless settings, locate the WPS option and enable it. Save your changes if prompted.

Part 2: Connecting Client Devices Using WPS (Push Button Connect - PBC)

Once WPS is enabled on your RP-AX50, you can use the Push Button Connect (PBC) method to easily connect your client devices.

Step 1: Ensure RP-AX50 is Ready

Make sure your RP-AX50 repeater is powered on, successfully connected to your main router (Parent AP), and WPS has been enabled via the web interface (as described in Part 1).

Step 2: Activate WPS on RP-AX50

Press and hold the WPS/RESET button on your RP-AX50 for approximately 3 seconds.

Step 3: Observe WPS LED

The WPS LED indicator will begin to blink, signifying that the RP-AX50 is now in WPS pairing mode and ready to connect with a client device.

Step 4: Activate WPS on Your Client Device

Within two minutes of the RP-AX50's WPS LED blinking, activate the WPS function on your client device (e.g., press the WPS button on your laptop's WiFi adapter, or select the WPS option in your smartphone's WiFi settings). Refer to your client device's manual for specific instructions.

Step 5: Confirm Connection

Once the devices successfully pair, the WPS LED on the RP-AX50 will typically stop blinking and may turn solid for a few seconds before turning off. Your client device should automatically connect to the RP-AX50's extended WiFi network. Verify the connection status on your client device.
