Graphics Cards
    ROG STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING

    Recommended

The bottom line is ALL of these graphics cards kick ass. Enthusiasts will have their favorites, of course, but any one of them would be great in a high-end gaming rig. We have no trouble recommending all three, without reservations. If you put a gun to our head and made us choose one, considering all of the factors mentioned above, we'd lean towards EVGA's offering due to its competitive price, aesthetics, and the goodies thrown in, but the Gigabyte card is a good value relative to other GTX 1080 cards as well. And if money was no object, the ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 STRIX OC is a hardcore tweaker's dream GPU. more

    Motherboards
    ROG RAMPAGE V EDITION 10

    Gold Award

The ASUS Rampage V Extreme 10 motherboard is one of the best LGA 2011-v3 motherboards have come across our test benches in quite a while. It is beautifully laid out in terms of features and design, and is great looking to boot with all the latest RGB lighting you could ask for. It performed flawlessly and proved to be an ample overclocking platform. That said, it is very much meant to be a halo product, and is priced as such at $600. more

    X99-A II

    Approved

The MSRP is competitive as well. Coming in at $229.99 it isn't the lowest for comparable feature sets, but it is definitely in line with what's expected. Currently the X99-A II is only available through third parties at Newegg and Amazon, but never fear because B&H has stock! This board gets the Overclockers Approved stamp. more

    Motherboards
    X99-A II

    Editor's Choice

All told, I think the X99-A II offers as smooth a ride as one could want when pairing a board with one of Intel's Broadwell-E CPUs, even the range-topping Core i7-6950X. We haven't had a ton of experience with refreshed X99 boards yet—something we hope to rectify in time—but Asus' value-priced entry in its X99 refresh lineup has impressed us. Making the right revisions to a winning formula without goofing up the things that made a product great in the first place is a fine line to walk, and Asus' deft handling of that challenge makes the X99-A II an easy pick for another Editor's Choice award. more

    Motherboards
    MAXIMUS VIII EXTREME

    Gold Award

ASUS has another beast on their hands with the Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard. Holding the "Flagship" moniker for the ASUS ROG Z170 board line, the board is chock full of features and accessories including the latest edition of their OC Panel device. The Maximus VII Extreme was as pretty to look at as it was over-engineered (which also ups the aesthetic factor for me). ASUS designed the beast with a full 13 dedicated power phases for the CPU alone, meaning that the board was made to put up with anything you could throw at it and engineered for world record performance. With the exception of the CMOS battery placement, the integrated component layout was well thought out and implement with more than adequate space to use the board's numerous features. more

    X99-DELUXE II

    Approved

The MSRP though, it hurts. Coming in at $419.99, for which it is currently selling atNewegg and Amazon, this is no two pence board. Other boards in this price range have similar feature sets so, even though it's high, I would say the price is in line with competition. This definitely gets the Overclockers Approved stamp. more
