ASUS really hit the sweet spot with the Xonar DG. There’s great quality audio, a ton of features in the Audio Center, along with extras like built in S/PDIF and a low profile bracket. Regardless what you’re doing, playing games, listening to music, or watching a movie, the Xonar DG will keep your ears quite happy. I highly recommend the Xonar DG to anyone looking for a significant boost in sound quality without hurting their wallet. Overall ThinkComputers gives the ASUS Xonar DG Sound Card a 9 out of 10 score.
The Xonar DG is clearly a superior audio device when directly compared with the motherboard’s onboard audio. There is a large difference in noise reduction, lower distortion, and improved frequency range. The Xonar DG performed well in movies. Gaming is where the Xonar DG is leaps and bounds better than the integrated onboard audio. I think the Asus Xonar DG 5.1 is a great overall buy for anyone with a board with entry level audio. …It consistently matched or completely out classed my integrated audio solution It should give you superior audio quality without breaking the bank…
the Xonar DG is quite the bang for the buck in terms of objective testing. Listening to various genres of music …improved sound quality; the bass response was deeper, more powerful... …Mids and highs also sounded good and were clearer than onboard sound… Where the Xonar DG really shined was when paired with a decent set of headphones. …music and movies came alive… Gaming with the Xonar DG and headphones surprised me with a marked improvement in sound quality. …it was truly impressive. Asus' Xonar line continues its impressive lineup with the Xonar DG, proving to be an exceptional value…
This budget Xonar may have had features clipped here and there, but it retains a few key ingredients that should have widespread appeal: Dolby Headphone support, excellent output quality, and just enough channels for most surround-sound configs. In the case of the $30 Xonar DG, the answer is a definitive yes. If you have halfway decent headphones or speakers, the DG offers a very real step up in sound quality for what amounts to a pittance. That's Editor's Choice material—easy. the Xense combines very attractive components in a package that's most definitely worth more than the asking price.
there is a noticeable difference is when listening to music while the Dolby Headphonestechnology is enabled. Music is made more immersive, and doesn't sound as if it was played in earcups. the ASUS Xonar DG is a great little card and should really be considered
