The Zenfone 3 Ultra was one of the premium segment smartphones of the Zenfone 3 series & it's actually a hybrid between a smartphone & a tablet. ASUS made this device entirely focusing on the media segment & that makes sense as now a days, our smartphone is what we use as our main media device.
Today, we are having our very first look at this premium grade Zenfone. So without wasing more time, let's get right into it.
This is mostly about the exteriors of the device so, let's start with the built & the basic design. The Zenfone 3 Ultra packs an Aluminium Alloy unibody that has an Invisible Antenna design simmilar to the Zenfone 3 Deluxe. Coming to the specific design aesthetics, the Zenfone 3 Ultra is having a 1080P IPS+ panel with the Screen size of 6.8 inchs & a Screen-to-Body ratio of 79%. This helps to keep the bezels relatively thin at just 2.4mm. ASUS has used a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 as the main protection to the screen & as it's a 2.5D Glass, there is a slight curve on the edges. At the front-top we have the 8MP Front Facing Camera followed by the Speaker Grill & the Proximity Sensor. At the front-bottom we have the Navigation Keys along with the Home Button that also doubles as a Fingerprint Scanner. ASUS decided to left the left side of the device empty. I can't get any logic behind this but probably it's related to a cleaner design. In the right side though, we have the Power Button along with Dual sim slots. You can either fit two Nano sims or one Nano sim & one Micro SD card. At the top we have the 3.5mm Headphone Jack with the Noise Cancelletion Microphone. At the bottom we have the USB Type-C Port along with Dual 5-magnet Speaker system & the Primary Microphone. Coming to the back side of the device, here we have a clean setup with the 23MP Rear-facing Camera, Laser Auto-focus & Dual-tone LED flash with a RGB Color-correction sensor. The Volume Rocker is also on the back. This is the same design signature that can be found in 2nd Gen Zenfones. In the box we also have some accessories including the 18W Fast-charger, an USB Type-C Cable, a ZenEar S headset & a Sim-ejector tool.
Also, like always there's a User Manual & a Warrenty Card as well. The device I have is actually a Review Unit but, the retail packaging is exactly the same as shown here. One exception though, is the Language of the Paperworks.
Early Thoughts On The Device The main attraction is the definitely the Display but, I found the speakers to be the most awesome hardware. The device is not very heavy but, it's kinda impossible to use with one hand. The build quality is good & feels solid in hand. A good thing is that, it doesn't have a slipping tedency from the hand. The Fingerprint Scanner is fast but requires to press down the Home Key to wake from sleep. I do need to test the device a lot more to take my final decisions so, definitely wait for my Full Review for the device. That's it for this Zenfone 3 Ultra impressions article. Let me know your thoughts on the comment section below & I'll catch you with the next article of this line up.
