[App Sharing] Open Signal

         In this modern age of ours,it has been a norm to be connected to the world whenever and wherever we are. Social media has already been a part of our daily lives - from the moment we wake up until the very last minute before we go to sleep. And with this, data connection for our mobile phones is already a neccesity. From the OOTDs, POTDs,ATMs, and all of the other things we find needed by our daily lives. Having a good service provider, a good area of coverage, a smartphone that supports fast data connection are usually the most, if not the least, neglected factors when purchasing a smartphone. But the question is how do you really know if you have a good data connection? I have discovered this app a few months ago but it was just recently that I was able to test it. OpenSignal is a company that specializes in wireless coverage mapping. The company crowdsources data on carrier signal quality from users who have its consumer mobile application installed. Consumers can view the crowdsourced data either online or in-app inthe form of colour-coded maps that aid purchasing decisions by showing unbiased data from different carriers side-by-side.*

            I find this app very useful because it shows you how reliable the connection of the service providers are in a specific area. It also has a search tool that you can also use to check for a specific place before going there. In addition, you can also see the service providers of other countries on their website, check here ( https://opensignal.com/networks). I haven’t tested it though thru their app.

As for NCR's coverage of Globe Telecom - which I am using, here is what Open Signal provided.

Here are a few information that Open Signal provides:

WIFI singal strength

Map of nearest cell tower/s within your area (turn on your location to activate)

Direction of the nearest cell tower where you are connected

It also gives you information reagrding connectivity statistics (see image below), upload and download speeds, which is somehow similar to the ones that speedtest.com provides, data usage (downlaod and uplaod), calls (made and received), text messages (sent and received), percentage of the time that your connected (on wifi and on data), and coverage map that shows signal strength (per network provider or both).

Nice app! upon using it for the first time, it justifies why I'm experiencing a poor connection - because of the few to none Cell towers in the area I am working. haha
