ZenFone2 Bug Report
Model: -
RAM: 4G
Firmware/APP Version: WW_2.20.40.97
Frequency: 50hz-60hz
Rooted: No
APP Name: -
Screenshot: -
so i've been encountered some problem about the latest firmware WW_2.20.40.97 that cause problems like error or flickering screen, i've been trying to wipe cache and reset factory data and guess what? its not working....

but i tried to downgrade the firmware to 2.20.40.90 and it work, This is not ROOT! After handling, your warranty will still be valid

so let get started
( ZE550ML=Z008 / ZE551ML=Z00A )

How to?
  • Be sur to have 50% battery or more
  • Download Recovery.img and Firmware of the same version
Example: You want to install 2.15.40.10 [UL-Z00A-WW-2.15.40.10-user.zip] Version Of Firmware Then You Should Download 2.15.40.10 recovery.img. The Version Of Recovery Image And Frimware Must Be Same!
  • Install Usb Driver & Adb Driver
Say "Yes" every time for Adb Driver Setup
  • Copy 2.15.40.10 recovery image [recovery.img] and the firmware [UL-Z00A-XX-X.XX.XX.XX-user.zip] file to Adb folder > C:\adb\
  • Activate the usb debug on your Zenfone 2 > settings > about > software info > tap on the build number until the popup show that indicate you are aleadry a dev " back to setting again now u will find developer options , click on it > switch it on there is a slider on top of the window > scroll down and u will find usb debug > check the box > popup showed click ok.
  • Connect the phone to pc > the rsa thing will pop up check the always allow and press allow on your phone screen tick always allow if the computer is yours.
If you do not see the popup, On adb cmd type adb devices (now you can see the popup and press allow, if you type adb devices again you can see your device in adb window)
  • Open adb folder and Shift + right click > Open Command pomport Here (click on it)
  • On the adb cmd type adb reboot-bootloader
  • After you enter the fastboot/droid boot, on the adb cmd type fastboot flash recovery <Recovery Image File Name.img>
Example: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  • After the recovery flash complete go to "recovery menu" and select on it, after you enter recovery navigate and select "update from adb"
  • And type on adb cmd adb sideload <Firmware File.zip>
  • Wait the for the process to complete the phone (~25min), if you have an auto reboot, you need to enter in the "boot loader" and select again"Recovery Mode"
  • you can now select "wipe data/factory reset" (~5min)
  • when is finish select "wipe cache partition" (~1min)
  • and for the end select "reboot system now"
  • The Boot process Will be Little Longer After This Process PLease Be Patient (~5min)
  • yaay done

IMPORTANT!!!: i remind you to not to upgrade your originated apps from asus because after i did all of this and try to upgrade the originated application form asus the screen flickers again, so yeah... do not upgrade your system and originated apps until asus came up with better upgrade

i hope this will help

That's strange. Did you leave your phone powered on or off during that 2 days?
I've tried downgrade and upgrade hundred times and the screen doesn't get any better.
What I'm more confused is, when I try to use the phone after a long time and charge it, the phone get's warm and sometimes the screen is normal. And other thing is, the screen is normal when we open apps like messages, people, call dialer, setting, whatsapp chats (without any picture attached on the chat). I'll make it short, the screen is normal when we open apps/pages dominant in white.
I've been wondering for more than one month. I've tried everything I know, tried some weird tricks found in the internet, asking everyone I think they know more than me, asking Asus representative (which I've got nothing, literally) and yet, here I am staring my broken phone.
I can't take it anymore so I take vacation and bring this phone to SC. I hope it's not a hardware problem. I hate to wait the sparepart order, shipping and etc. I don't have much time 'cause I need to go back to work (which is ~1000 miles away from that SC).

i left my phone turned on, anw we have the same problem here it seems like the screen only goes back to normal on a white or light color screen for example bbm, i asume u dont have screen problem when you open bbm am i correct? so here's the thing, i tried to upgrade to the latest firmware .139 last night which is very disappoint me because the error screen went back...
here's my asumption, maybe, just maybe.
the firmware .97 contain a glitch which affect the phone hardware that caused the hardware malfunctioning permanently, i saw some thread that people with the same problem taking their phone to sc and have their screen or motherboard replaced,

lets say it really fix the phone, so basically you have to spend money to fix your phone because of the firmware asus gave,

i live in indonesia at manado city, and the nearest sc available is approximately 1000 miles away (just like your case) so i went to the retailer where i bought my zenfone from, and they said it will take 3 to 4 month for the repairment (wtf), plus they told me the warranty might got void because they saw a small scratch, so i asked them why it takes so long to repair, they said because of the shipment of the components takes time,

u know how much it cost for screen and motherboard replacement for zenfone 2 ZE551ML? it cost a new zenfone 2 laser (double wtf)

Did the abovementioned instruction worked? Ive tried to disable overlays but the problem is still there. And i dont know how to downgrade firmware. Lucky for those whose phones worked after said process.
