[TUTORIAL] HOW TO BACKUP/RESTORE IMEI NUMBER

Hi guys,i am back with another tutorial for our zenfones.
I will be teaching you how you can backup and restore your imei number.Backing up imei is very usefull and will help you a lot in case you mess up with your device.

BACKUP:

REQUIREMENTS:
1]ROOTED PHONE
2]TERMINAL EMULATOR APP(PLAY STORE LINK)
3]YOUR PHONE

PROCEDURE:
1] first of all root access is needed so root your phone
2] download and install terminal emulator app
3]open the  terminal emulator app and write following code:


   su     (you will get a prompt to give root access to app-click allow then type following things with enter after each line)
   dd if=dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=removable/MicroSD/mmcblk0p3.img
   dd if=dev/block/mmcblk0p5 of=removable/MicroSD/mmcblk0p5.img

(take care of spaces and type exactly the way shown)


4]Now head to your external storage and find the imei backup files (mmcblk0p3/5.img)
5]Copy them to any safe place like pc/pen drive/cloud etc.


RESTORE:

REQUIREMENTS:
1]ROOT ACCESS
2]TERMINAL EMULATOR APP
3]THE mmcblk0p3/5 BACKUP FILES
4]YOUR PHONE




PROCEDURE:
1] first of all root access is needed so root your phone
2] copy the mmcblk0p3/5 backup files from wherever you stored them to your external sd card
3] download and install terminal emulator app
4]open the  terminal emulator app and write following code:


   su     (you will get a prompt to give root access to app-click allow then type following things with enter after each line)
   dd if=removable/MicroSD/mmcblk0p3.img of =dev/block/mmcblk0p3
   dd if=removable/MicroSD/mmcblk0p3.img of =dev/block/mmcblk0p3



(take care of spaces and type exactly the way shown)


5] now reboot your phone
6] open dialer(you may see message,ignore it)
7] type *#06*
8] voila!!! your imei is back, better don't mess up next time..




SOME BASIC THINGS:

****WHY YOU NEED BACKUP ?
      Many times while flashing rom's you might get this null imei error, you will loose all sim functionality and wont be able to make calls.


****ANY NON ROOT METHOD?
     I could not find any till now...tell me if u find any....moreover if you are not rooting or installing roms,you wont be loosing imei also.

Nice info. When i was a noob (2yrs back) with the android mobile and android operating system i used to have a MediaTek device. Once i lost IMEI on that and i almost felt like i had done something wrong which is not supposed to be done. Luckily i found a tutorial at that time using which i was able to give IMEI using manual operation then backedup.

Now that this tutorial clearly explains how to backup IMEI, this will be useful for all the new members who are not aware of this. Thanks a lot for the neat and clean explanation bro.

Exactly. Surely it helps most of the members on this forum

p3 and p5 contains the IMEI and Baseband? So I do not need to backup other numbers in my EFS partition am I correct?

mmcblk0p3 and 5 are sufficient to backup imei.....but if u want u may backup that also..

alguem ja testou esse metodo pra ver se da certo??????

Hi!. Very nice tutorial. Any idea of how root Zenfone 3 Laser ZC551KL?. I have a Null IMEI issue that want to fix. My wife have the same Zenfone model, if got his IMEI backup file, is there a way to edit it to write my zenfone´s original IMEI number and restore it in my Zenfone?.

I dont own these phones so i have very little knowledge about them. lol
You can try on xda forums.but before doing anything flash stock firmware again, many times it does the trick.
And no you shouldn't use any one's imei coz it's illegal
