The Zen in your eyes Photography contest is a sure big deal and we can vouch for this simply because we've got Photographer Avinash Gowariker on board. Gifted with an eye for photography, Mr. Gowariker would help us select the winner for this Contest!

Curious about his work, we decided to interview him and understand his take on Photography. For all those participating in this contest, you may want to keep your notepad open, taking down notes would really help.

ZenTalk Interviews Photographer Avinash Gowariker:

Q1: Could you tell us a little bit about yourself? What made you take up Photography?

Avinash: Fearless and at 19, I walked up to Dad one day and spoke to him about my love for Photography and how much it meant to me. I didn't want to continue college but wished to focus on Photography instead. Even while I spoke out my heart's content to my father, little did I know that not only would he encourage my passion but also gifted me a camera the very next day. And with this, I was off to a lifelong commitment to the craft.

Just like I savor relationships with people around me, trying to understand their comfort and things that perhaps tick them off, I extend the same understanding to the subjects or celebrities I shoot. Right from their expressions, gestures, moods, movements to their clothing, every detail is part of the set up I work with, one that helps sell a product or a movie.

With regards to my work, I work across an array of themes. These revolve around Celebrities, Film Publicity, Advertising, Fashion, Model Portfolios, Portraiture and Working Stills.

Q2. Would you vouch for smartphone photography? How often do you make use of a smartphone to shoot instead of a DSLR?

Avinash: A phone can never be replaced by a DSLR, although a smartphone camera could be best used to shoot day to day moments for travel photography. For photos on the go, its best to have a phone camera. I remember carrying a point and shoot camera with me all the time, I would use it to capture day to day moments of my life . As a photographer, I felt that If I see something good, I should have something that will help me record that moment. I've now replaced that point and shoot with a smartphone camera to capture such moments.

Q3. What are your thoughts on the Zenfone 3 Camera?

Avinash: It's a very good camera. Because I'm a fashion photographer, what I like a lot about this camera is the speed at which it boots, shoots and is ready to begin shooting again. This works as an important aspect when I shoot. In all honesty, I'v come across several Android phones that lag or don't open up quick. Although, with the Zenfone 3, you've just got to press the app and in a millisecond, it's ready to use. It's user friendly and extremely quick to use. What I've also been impressed about is its quality, it is extremely rich. The detailing of colors and shadows even without an edit is what give the Zenfone 3 an upper hand.

Q4. Do you have a favorite PixelMaster Mode you’ve shot through?

Avinash: As a photographer, I usually shoot raw and for the moment. I make the required edits, post shoot. Although, I personally love the HDR Mode in the Zenfone 3 camera.

Q5. Would you mind sharing a few tips & tricks you’ve come across shooting through the Zenfone3 camera?

Avinash: Make use of different angles to shoot in the quickest way. You could always look for awkard/weird angles (under the table, with your hand around something, whatever it takes to get a great picture).

Q6. What should a participant look for in a photo when shooting for the Zen in your eyes contest?

Avinash: A participant could look to shoot simple everyday life images in an eye catching way that is visually impressive. Look for things around you, you'll find beauty in the smallest things around you.

Q7. Do you make use of an Editing App? If Yes, which one?

Avinash: I make use of the Snapseed App!

Q8. Would you want to share with us a Note of Advice on the Rules of Smartphone Photography?

Avinash: Because a smartphone camera comes with a wide angles lens, there's way too much going on within the image because you end up capturing everything in one frame. Make sure to capture interesting content in your frame, because with a wide angle, you're going to end up with a lot of content in your frame, few of which may not look interesting. Make sure to shoot your photo in an interesting way, avoid clutter, uncessary elements in the background, instead shoot through interesting angles and try shooting what you want to focus on or would like to have the viewer see, solely.

We asked Photographer Avinash to click a few pictures with the Zenfone 3. Shot in London, we promise you that you'll fall in love with the Zenfone 3 Camera.

We're hoping that this interview would help you shoot great pictures! We challenge you to make use of all tips suggested by Photographer Avinash, you'll be amazed to see what a smartphone camera could do! Good Luck!

If you still haven't participated yet, you've still got a few days to go! Hurry Up!
