AR & VR will definitely dominate the industry in near future & with this understanding OEMs like Google & Microsoft are pushing their limits into these segments real hard. Google's bet for this is their two different platforms known as Tango & Daydream. It looks like ASUS is the first brand to use both of these technologies in a single Smartphone. So, hold your nerves because, this is our Intial Impressions on the ASUS Zenfone AR !
Impressions
We will be doing this real quick this time. As always I have pointed out each & every important part of the device so, you guys can have a better understanding. So, without wasting any more time let's jump into it !
The Zenfone AR comes in this sleek little box. Inside you'll get your Device, some important Accessories & some Paperwork. Coming to the Box contents one by one now.
The Zenfone AR
First we have the Zenfone AR itself. I have to say that it has been engineered quite well. It looks & feels quite premium. Being an Impressions article I'll talk about the exteriors of course. Anyway, in the end I'll give you my first impressions on the device. So here it goes...
In the Front we have the 5.7 inch Super Amoled Display. It has a resolution of 1440P or 2K if you want to call that. It is also protected bt a glossy 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
At the Front-top we have the Calling Speaker Grill along with the Proximity Sensor & the 8 Megapixel Front Facing Camera. Oh, and there's no Front Facing Flash in this one in case you were looking for it.
At the Front-bottom we have the Home Key that also doubles as a Fingerprint Scanner. The Navigation Keys are located in both sides of the Home Key & they are backlit if you're curious.
In the Bottom we have the 3.5 mm Headphone Jack, Primary Microphone, USB Type-C Port & the Main Speaker Grill. One thing worth mentioning is that I'm happy to see that, ASUS is not ditching the Headphone Jack in their flagships. Keep it up guys.
The Top However stays lonely with just the Noise Cancelletion Microphone standing over there. But, I think moving the Headphone Jack to the Bottom was a great move. Will explain this later in my Full Review.
In the Back we are packed with a ton of stuff. The main spotlight being the Tri-Cam System. So, we have the Regular 23 Megapixel shooter along with the Motion Tracking & Depth Sensing modules. These together supply the functionality to support Google Tango. Also, we have the Dual-tone Autofocus along with the RGB sensor for color correction purpose. The NFC is also located in the back.
Oh, and the Back has a Leather covering on it. This adds a quite premium look to the device. I think it looks really good & adds some durability on the back as well.
In the Left we have the Sim Tray that supports either Two Sims or One Sim & One MicroSD Card. Depends on what you prefer of course.
Here is a close look at that Hybrid Sim Tray. Though the Top is made with Metal, the rest of the tray is made with plastic.
In the Right side we have the Power Key along with the Volume Up & Volume Down controllers. And that kinda wraps of the Device. Now, let's check what else do we get in the Box.
Also In The Box
As I've told you, we have some important accessories & a few paperwork content inside the box. Coming to them one by one...
First we get the Sim Ejector Tool & inside the Same packaging we can find The Daydream Ready confirmation Paperwork and other documents like the User Manual & the Warrenty Card.
Keeping that aside we have our Power Brick that is capable of Fast Charging at 18W. We also have the USB Type-C Cable & the ZenEar S that supports Hi-Fi Audio.
The Daydream view is not included into the box. So, you have to buy it separately. But, if you buy it along with the Zenfone AR, you can get a hefty 2500 Rupees Discount (In India via. Flipkart).
Initial Thoughts
Using the Zenfone AR has been a quite impressive experience in the initial period. I'll definitely test it a lot more before I give you my Full Review. Anyway, these are my initial thoughts on the device,
- The device Looks & Feels premium. Justice to the 50K INR Price tag here.
- The UI feels snappy. Only the animations time can be a bit shorter.
- The Screen is quite amazing. Best screen on any Zenfone I have tested till now.
- The Battery Backup is surprisingly good.
- The speakers sound pretty good.
I'll keep testing the device more & give you my Full Review soon. Also, lot's of other content coming on Zenfone AR so, keep checking back Fanshare to confirm you don't miss any of that.
Bonus - Rear Camera Samples !
Anyway, these were some shots from the Rear Facing Camera in Auto Mode with HDR Auto Enabled. For more shots & an in depth evaluation, there's also a Camera review coming soon.
So, that wraps it up. Tell me your views in the comments section below & maybe leave a Like in case this article was interesting. I'll catch you real soon, right here on ZenTalk !
