When it comes to photography, most smartphones encounter these limitations:
- They suffer from low quality low-light shots.
- Your framing options are limited.
- Most front cameras can barely fit a group of people.
ASUS's new PixelMaster 4.0 takes care of all these problems by providing the smartphone photographers with great low-light performance, wide-angle and zoom cameras, as well as some of the best selfie/wefie cameras.
Low-Light Photography
ASUS' PixelMaster 4.0 on the ZenFone 4 series allows you to take brighter, clearer photos with true-to-life colors in low-light. It does this by using the SuperPixel Camera, a technology that combines an up to f/1.7 wide aperture, 4-stops optical image stabilization, large 1.4um pixels, ASUS' propreitary SuperPixel Engine, and Qualcomm's Spectra image signal processors.
Compared to other smartphone cameras with f/2.2 aperture, ZenFone 4's f/1.8 aperture allows 49% more light into the lens. ZenFone 4 Pro's wider f/1.7 aperture lets in a whopping 67% more light. This ensures that there is always enough light reaching the image sensor no matter the shooting scenario.
The OIS can detect 4-axis handshake and compensate by moving the lens in 8 directions. With this OIS, photographers can use a shutter speed that is up to 4 stops slower than without it. And that's not all. Compared to other brands, ASUS' optical image stabilization dampens 0.7 degrees movement variance (versus industry standard 0.4 degrees) and compensates for 20% more actuator noise, allowing for more accurate image stabilization.
ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 4 Pro's flagship Sony IMX362 image sensor has a large 1.4um pixel size, which lets in 69% more light than a smartphone with a 1.0um pixel size.
ASUS SuperPixel Engine is an image processing system exclusive to ASUS ZenFones. Together with Spectra image signal processors from Qualcomm, SuperPixel Engine boosts light sensitivity and enables multi-framing noise reduction.
The ZenFone 4 Pro's TriTech+ Autofocus System combines Dual Pixel PDAF, 2nd generation Laser AF and Subject Tracking AF for focusing speeds as fast as 0.03 seconds in any scenario.
Dual Cameras - Wide and Zoom
The ZenFone 4 series is one of the only product line-ups released initially with dual cameras in tow. The 120 degrees super wide-angle camera on the ZenFone 4 Max, ZenFone 4 Selfie/Selfie Pro and ZenFone 4 allows for 200% wider view than standard cameras.
This super wide-angle camera allows you to fit more scenery and friends in every photo. It's great for expansive landscapes, large subjects, group photos, indoor shots in confined spaces, and getting creative with stylistic effects.
The ZenFone 4 Pro's 2X optical zoom camera allows you to break through the distance barrier. With a higher resolution 16MP image sensor, you won't lose image quality even if you take advantage of the 10X total zoom (2X optical + 5X digital).
The secondary 16MP image sensor also enables a hardware-based Portrait Mode effect, with it's 50mm focal length keeping the subject in clear focus while softening the background details, using the main 12MP camera for depth information.
Improved camera user interface
The new ASUS Camera app on the ZenFone 4 features a three-page setup; slide to the left to view the camera modes and slide to the right to view all the available filters.
All the camera's most-used settings are located at the top of the screen, for easy access. There's also instant camera switching, so that you can change camera lenses with no delay.
