【ZenBook Flip S Unboxing Review Part.1】
I can fly without wings
1.jpg
Sometimes when I thinkabout it, I started my beautiful encounter with ASUS ZenTalk because of mobilephones. I never would have imagined that this spark of impact would burn acrossto another product of ASUS, the ASUSZenBook Flip S. I wouldn’t say that I wassurprised, but it was an activity that I truly enjoyed.

Since the PC field was the original industry forASUS, it was more than natural that they released such a product; but I neverthought the day would come when ZenTalk gets to host a NoteBook reviewactivity. ZenTalk must have put in quite some effort in order to get to hostsuch product review activity; so although I was tied down by work among otherthings, I still couldn’t resist and so I enrolled in the ASUS ZenBook Flip S reviewactivity and was fortunate enough to become a member of this review activity.

This is my small personalslogan for ASUS ZenBook Flip S because of how I felt about it… it is meticulous andlightweight. It’s just like a feather placed in the palm of my hand, and itmight fly away if I didn’t pay attention! I know I have great imagination, butyou will definitely feel its lightweight attractiveness when you hold it inyour hands. Next, let me share with you my evaluation and experience so thatyou can also get a feel for the attractiveness ofASUS ZenBook Flip S.

In recent years, thedifferences between NoteBooks and tablets are becoming vague; sometimes peoplewonder whether they are holding a tablet or a NoteBook.

That was exactly how I feltwhen I first got my hands on ASUSZenBook Flip S; it really is extremely lightweight. In terms of product positioning, it is a NoteBook but it is also definitely atablet. The ASUS ZenBook Flip S is just such a combination.

Let’s start with boxopening. In the package of the review model sent this time, there is an ASUS ZenBook Flip S unit,ASUS PEN, adapter cable and an ASUS Mini Dock three-in-one expansion.

It also included anexcellent quality protective case that allows us to travel with ASUS ZenBook Flip S conveniently.

I’ve seen a lot of notebooks that stress itslightweight features, and I’ve actually used quite a few of them too; however,I don’t think there is any other product available on the market besides ASUS ZenBook Flip Sthat can compete with how ASUS unleashed the lightweight and simplicity featuresto the extreme.

So exactly how lightweightis ASUS ZenBook Flip S?I used the notebook I work with for comparison, and you can clearly see howheavy the burden is that I experience on my shoulder every day.
To tell you the truth, the thickness of ASUS ZenBook Flip S wasshockingly the same thickness as my ZenPad with the protective case around it.

I kept stressing about howlightweight ASUS ZenBook Flip S is, so exactly how lightweight is it? Don’t dropyour jaws. It is only 10.9mm thick and just weighs 1.1kg; it’s freakishly unbelievable… However, thislightweight design was built using aerospacealuminum alloy, and is 50% sturdier thanthe average aluminum alloy.

In keeping with thetraditional image of ASUS products, we can also see the same concentric circle metal hairline design on the top cover. According tothe information I received, ASUS ZenBook Flip S will come in two colors. One is “Royal Blue”,which is the color of the review model that I received, and the other is “SmokyGray”. So it seems like their key demographic focused on the mature commercialmarket.

Diamond-cut gold beveledtrim, ASUS ZenBook Flip S RoyalBlue with the gold trim gives it a feeling of great extravagance.

To the right, there are the“Type C slot”,“Fingerprint ID”,“Volume buttons”and “Power button”.Such design is more like a tablet and is quite different from traditional notebookdesigns.

Windows 10 with “Fingerprint ID”allows the owner to quickly log in to the system and is very safe. Designing itto be on the side also makes it more convenient for users to make the gestureto have their fingerprint scanned.

To the left there are the “Type C slot”,“Audio jack”and “Heat outlet”.Since the body is lightweight, cooling is an important issue. According to thedocument provided by the editor, ASUSZenBook Flip S is equipped with liquidcooling device. I really wanted to disassemble it to take a look at what itlooks like, but I was afraid I would damage the review model and I won’t beable to bear that responsibility; so I finally decided to give up.

The touch pad of ASUS ZenBook Flip S ispretty great too. It was made with glass material, making it smoother to use.In terms of operation, it supports three-finger and four-finger multi-touchcontrol…

I’ve always loved thetofu-shaped adapter from ASUS; compared to common long strip adapters, the tofushape feels more stylish.

In order to allow you to compare the adapter of ASUS ZenBook Flip S, here’s the adapter of my notebook for work, and you can see the difference in their sizes. This just goes to show that for certain things, bigger is not better

The power supply used for ASUS ZenBook Flip S hasa Type C plug, which is different from my old adapter with a circular plug. Theadvantage of using Type C plug is that it can be plugged in from both sides sothe cable does not need to be run in the direction of the environment. It isextremely convenient.

Due to the lightweight andsimple design, there are only Type C slots on the body; therefore ASUS alsoprovided an external Mini Dock so that you can also connect the external MiniDock to connect other devices when needed. There are three slots on the unitbody: Type C, USB 3.0 and HDMI.

When I enrolled for to reviewthis computer, I always thought that it was a notebook; it was until I receivedthe review model that it also had a very surprising accessory, the ASUS PEN. This is a stylus pen with1024 levels of pressure sensitivity and it is a great tool whether used to take notes ordrawing. I actually drew a few test strokes and it was more sensitive than thestylus for me ZenPad; it worked really great. I love the drawing effects ofthis pen.

The power source of the ASUSPEN is a battery. If I had to pick a bone about it, I would say it is moredifficult to buy this type of battery in common markets; it would be perfect ifthe battery was rechargeable.

  • As I mentioned at the beginning, ASUS ZenBook FlipS is a notebook as wellas a tablet. But in summary, it has a total of four usage modes:

    Notebook mode
This needs no explanation; its placement is like average notebooks. There is aclever design for the top cover for when it is lifted; it slightly lifts theunit body so there is space for cooling, as well as allowing the keyboard to beat an optimal typing angle.

The cleverly designed angle of ASUSZenBook Flip S can easily be understood by looking at it fromthe side.

  • Sharing(discussion) mode
    ASUSZenBook Flip S
can be folded 360 degrees. The bearing hasa 20,000 times usage life guarantee. So if we fold it to a reversed V shape, wecan place it on a table for up-close project discussion with others and we canput the projector away.
  • Standing(video watching) mode
Fold it to another angle for video watching mode. Find a leisurely afternoonand have the popcorn prepared, and play a movie that you’ve always wanted towatch; how can life be more beautiful?

  • Tabletmode
360 degrees folding along with Windows 10 tablet mode can quickly get youstarted and is convenient to carry; it is a great tool for meetings.

To achieve 360 degreesfolding, the special design of the bearing is extremely important. This time, ametal bearing design is used for ASUSZenBook Flip S, with a usage life up to 20,000 times, allowing you to fold it however you like without wearingit out.

Another thing that I mustmention is that ASUS ZenBook Flip S has extremely good screen display that effectswhether for color display or saturation. It is very pleasing to the users’eyes. And with its thinnest 6.1mm ultra-narrowframe design, it is simply admirable;especially for workers like me who have to stare at a screen for long periodsof time due to our work. This is truly enjoyable.

And to match tablet operations, tempered scratchproofglass is a must…ASUS ZenBook Flip S uses CorningGorilla Glass Tempered Glass… Users can rest assuredand use it boldly whether it is sliding with fingers or stroking with stylus.

In addition to this external hardware equipment, the sound quality of ASUS ZenBook Flip S was also quite refreshing. When we take a lookat the back, we can see the four mesh audio speakers below, which uses the SonicMaster Salar Technology. You can feel its outstanding sensual effects whetherlistening to music or watching videos. If you get the chance to go to thestore, remember to try out its audio playback effects.

Another thing that I mustmention is the protective case that’s included; it has a filamentous hairlineappearance with yellow machine sewed binding, which looks extremely stylishwhen you’re holding it and does not look like a computer pack at all. 。

The protective case hasthoughtfully included a storage space for your ASUS PEN so you no longer haveto worry about forgetting the pen somewhere.

When the notebook is placedinside, it looks like a small notepad… When I went to work these past few days,I have a heavy computer pack on one side of my shoulder while easily holdingthe ASUS ZenBook Flip Sin my other hand. The heavy and lightweight comparison is extremely obvious.

With the protection fromthis protective case, you can easily travel with ASUSZenBook Flip S every day.

After looking at thehardware, let’s take a look at the Ghost ofASUS ZenBook Flip S.

I’m a very special case andI would usually first press F2 to take a look at the BIOS… This is a “secretchamber” that is deeply integrated with the hardware and no one will usuallycome in unless something is wrong.
Although people who enters the BIOS are in aclass of their own, but this section does not support Traditional Chinese andit is a pity. But honestly speaking, even if USB is translated to “UniversalSerial Bus”, that doesn’t make it any better. However, the ZenBook Flip S’interface looks really cool and very futuristic.

Okay, let’s exit the secret chamber and enterthe real operating system; ASUSZenBook Flip S comes with Windows 10Home.

Let’s take a look at the performance chart foraverage usage. It has an i7-7500U2.70GHz CPU (I think there willalso be an i5 core model).

It has 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD (solid state drive). Nowadays if you’re going to buy a computer, youshouldn’t even bother if it doesn’t have SSD because the speed differs greatly.

Similarly, ASUS alsoincluded some built-in tools.

ASUS also provided acollective app toolbox called ASUS GIFTBOX, which is similar to Store. It makesit easier for you to download application programs that you need.

Summary:
After a few days of evaluation, some of myfavorite features about it are listed as follows:
1.      Obviously its lightweight feature. Thereis completely no burden on my neck andshoulder when I carry the ASUS ZenBook Flip S with me outdoors. It’s great!
2.      The outstanding and meticulous graphicscapabilities and three-dimensional audio effects caused no burden to the eyes and ears. Excellent!!
3.      The 1024 level ASUS Pen operates with nodelay; there’s no burdenwhen held in hand and great for drawing. Outstanding!!!

In general, I was extremely satisfied with ASUS ZenBook Flip S. Of course, there weresome slightly insufficient performances during actual testing processes, butits many advantages outweighed its flaws, so I still gave it an extremely highscore. That was the sharing of my experience with you; hope you will like ittoo!

I have shared more detail information and my user experience in Part II.

This is one of the laptops on my final list. I'm curious if the connectors of the power plug are foldable, I watched a couple of reviews on Youtube, all of the power connectors are sticking up, I refuse to believe what I'm seeing because it's supposed to be a very basic requirement for a mobile power adapter.

The other thing puzzling me is why Asus didn't include a microSD reader in the dongle, since aparently Asus doesn't want to include it in UX370UA or UX490UA (another one on my final list). When people buy thin and light computers means they don't want many accessaries either, otherwise the whole thin and light idea lose its point.
