Use Cleanmaster app and clear all the junk on your phone and restart. I think it should fix this issue. Else you need to wipe the partition cache.

Actually RAM leakage is a Lollipop issue and may be a version update like you suggested may be the only fix for it.

Use auto start manager and add unused apps to it to prevent it from running in the background.

I dont think usb on the go is supported.

Zenfone 2 supports OTG. Its also there in the specs
