Once you read "One Photo successfully imported" you are now entering the more challenging part of knowing Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for mobile.  Exciting right? well if you are really a photography enthusiast or hobbyist or a professional who wants to learn mobile photography editing, I expect now your vital signs are increasing a little bit haha. Please be patient enough, some mobile photographers are not comfortable in using this app for according to them it is complicated and not user friendly not like the Snapseed (well for me the two are just the same).

A) SELECTIVE ADJUSTMENT

20170912_114325_1.jpg

The first tool that i will discuss is the Selective Adjustment, well many of us would underestimate its use and be lazy to study this, but i know for those who have experience in editing, this tool is very very helpful. This tool will help you edit and enhance even the smallest detail in any part of your photo, as seen in the photo with the red arrow pointing in the tool. The application also supports RAW editing and let you edit selectively.

20170912_120437_1_1.jpg

After pressing the Selective button, 3 function buttons will appear on screen at the right side. On the first photo: 1) Rectangular format 2) Circular format 3) Delete button. That's how the circular format looks like. The Blue button is the controller meaning if you want to change the placement just hold the blue button and drag it. the 3 small white circle in the axis serves as to adjust the size of the circle whether you want it big, small or elongated. The Gray colored circle serves as to control the amount of editing applied on the specific area ( 0-100% feather). Now if you want to rotate the circle whether you like it to be vertically placed, horizontal or diagonal, you need to touch and hold the linear axis then drag, If you are not contented with your edit you can still add one and take note it is unlimited. As seen in the 2nd Photo, an arrow pointing to the first selective adjustment rendered and the new one.

The left photo is the Rectangular format, same functions as what i said in the circular format, there's a one blue button to change the position, you can also make it vertically placed, horizontal or diagonal just touch and hold the line at the middle then drag. You can also hold the outer linear axis to drag it whether upwards or downards to expand. The other photo shows the parameters under the tool "Light" using a selective adjustment.

A.1) LIGHT

After selecting the area, the first editing option is the "Light", which contains the exposure, contrast, highlights and shadows respectively.

20170912_145957_1-01_1.jpg

The photo shows 3 parts where adjustments are applied. Now always remember that the more natural your photo is, the better, but in some cases photographers add filters and effect to add mood or drama but is not always effective. The 1st photo shows an increased value of the 4 editing parameters. Noticed how it destroyed the details, colors and composition of the photo?leaving it washed ,overexposed and quite irritating in the eyes. The 3rd photo shows a decreased in the value of the parameters giving  a darker and dimmer result, some burned areas making the quality suffer. Lastly the 2nd picture shows a well balanced one. Notice how perfectly the colors blend along with the bright background down to the foreground and a detailed subject, that post processed photo is more natural, eye pleasing and satisfying. The arrow on the second photo points on a logo which acts as to review the unedited and edited version of the picture when pressed. Don't forget not to overdo your editing always.

A.2) COLOR

The property possessed by an object producing different sensations in the eyes as a result of the way it reflects or emits light.

A.2.1) TEMPERATURE

It is used to keep the colours in your photos look accurate and natural. Remember that the normal value is 5,500K in standard.

20170912_150609_1_1.jpg

The collaged photo shows the difference when you increase or decrease the value of the temperature. Notice that when i increased the temperature on the selected side the color gets warmer or yellowish in tone, thus increasing the luminance of reds and greens pixels and that of the blue pixels. When adjusted on a negative value the part gets more of a bluish tone. Remember that increasing the temperature are best for those pictures that has faded yellow /orange colors especially on sunsets and lowering the temperature is best to use on blue shaded sceneries or blue skies, but never over do it, natural is still the best.

A.2.2) TINT
Sometimes called as Pastel. It's simply any color with white added on it. A tint is lighter than the original color.

20170912_150832_1_1 (1).jpg

The combined photos show us the differences between increasing and decreasing your tint. Basically here in APLR for mobile as you increase the value of your tint the color will change from pinkish to purplish, then as you lower down the value the color changes from yellowish to greenish. One tip, usually adjusting the tint is best on monochromatic photos (single toned photos) or in some occasions for still life photographs.

A.2.3) SATURATION

Basically for me defined as the purity of a color, how blue the blue is, how teal the teal is, etc. Technically it all has to do with the intensity of light of a specific frequency or wavelength coming from a lightsource.

20170912_151026_1_1.jpg

The Photos above are simply showing us the difference between the intensity of colors. Obviously as you increase the value of your saturation the color on the selected part gets stronger and vivid, but be careful in oversaturating it because it is not pleasing in the eyes and is not natural. While decreasing the value will lead to desaturating the colors, meaning the colors will fade and will result to a black and white output. Sometimes lowering the saturation of a certain picture is helpful to make the colors become natural. In some cases can also be use to make a certain part of your picture monochromatic if it does add to the composition. (Note: Black and white effect will be discussed on the next part of this article).

A.2.4) HUE

Simply the difference in colors themselves ( red vs yellow ). These are the family of 12 purest and brightest colors. 3 primary colors, 3 secondary colors and six tertiaries and they form the full spectrum of colors.

20170913_233405_1 (1).jpg

As you can see, the Hue is located below the saturation and spectrum of colors are available. all you need to do is to just choose what shade of color you wanted for your photo. This is not commonly applied and is sometimes used for creative purposes.

Now you were able to learn one of the editing tools in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for mobile which is the Selective Adjustment and some of the editing parameters under it. The remaining 3 under selective adjustment will be tackled in the next part of this article. I encourage you to read it again and apply it to your own photos. I'm Looking forward to see some of your edited pictures in the comment section or anywhere in the social media. Please feel free to ask some questions. I hope you enjoyed and this is not yet the end of your journey towards mastering APLR for mobile. Little by little we will go deeper and i will see to it that it is still easy to understand. We only just crossed the Crust, we still need to get into the Core. Stay tuned for the next part. Thank you and Godbless!
