One of the most troublesome problems when recording with smartphones is that “depth of field cannot be adjusted”. Since most of the smartphones use auto-focus, users cannot manually adjust their focus point; all they can do is keep moving the phone to find the best position. However, in manual mode of ZenFone 2, there’s a “manual focus” function that can solve this problem; whether you want to take close-up photos or photos of a nearby object but not focusing on the nearest object, these are no longer problems! Let Joey teach you how to do it!
How to enable “manual focus” in manual mode?
1. First open the built-in camera and locate “manual mode”:
2. The bottom-most option of manual mode is the manual focus mode.
How is it used?
One of the best advantages of manual focus is that you can change the focus without having to move the phone; take a look at the following example:
▲ Assume I want to take a close-up of the ASUS Logo, all I have to do is to adjust it to the bottom and there should be no problems.
But now comes the problem, what if I want to target I want to focus on is the “ZE551ML” text behind? Usually this will require adjusting the position of the phone for a while, or that it cannot be done at all. But with “manual focus” mode, we only need to adjust the slider without having to move the position of the phone at all to change the focus.
▲ Slightly slide the slider and you can move the focus from “ASUS” to “ZE551ML”!
▲ Similarly, if the target you want to focus on is the forest behind, just slide the slider to the top to focus at the furthest location; you don’t have to worry about the focus being interfered by the object in front.
Other application examples
This time of application is suitable when there’s “a row of objects”; assume there are three objects 1, 2 and 3 from far to close, once there’s manual focus mode, you can freely control where you want to focus on!
▲ There’s a row of flowers, you can choose to focus on the closest object.
▲ Or the object in the middle if the flower in the middle is prettier…
▲ Or let the flower take on a support role and mainly focus at the distance; that’s ok too!
This concludes the “manual focus for manual mode” tutorial! Don’t miss the other tutorials~
