If you want to Root your Zenfone 2 Laser (ZE500KL) ASUS mobile, there here is a simple way to do it.
DISCLAIMER --The details are purely informative and ASUS - ZenTalk DO NOT support rooting your device, as it leads to voiding warranty. - Do it at your own risk!!! If you do not understand the concept of root, and the reason why you need it, then dont proceed further!!! ZenTalk/ASUS India will not be held responsible if the process fails, or if you end up bricking your device.
Here's how you can get your ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser rooted:
1) Things you need:
- USB cable
- A Computer (Windows PC)
- A Zenfone 2 Laser (ZE500KL)
2) Download the two files required:
ABD android Drivers and the boot img file: https://goo.gl/zjohZH (Do do not republish this link!!!)
3) Install the ADB drivers - begin the setup with right click 'Run as Admin'. Hit Y (yes) for every prompt shown and also on the 'continue driver installation' dialogue
4) Unzip the files, and Start Command Prompt with admin rights as shown:
5) Open the folder containing the mod_boot.img file, and copy the file location address -
6) type CD <space> and paste the copied address and hit enter -
7) On the Laser, go to Settings >> About >> Software information. tap the Build number 7 times to unlock the Developer options.
8) Go back to Settings, and go to Developer options. Tap and enable the USB Debugging check box, tap on OK to confirm -
9) Turn ON and boot the phone into FAST recovery mode. Power it on Using Power/unlock key + Volume UP, once done you should see that the phone is stuck at the ASUS black screen with android written at the bottom, lastly connect the device to the PC, and wait for driver installation to finish-
10) Enter the command - fastboot boot mod_boot.img, and hit enter:
11) You should be able to see the following dialogs, if you see a success message, then you will see the phone reboot on its own into the OS, It will show ANDROID IS UPGRADING. Thats IT, you're rooted -
12) To verify you have root access, download and install the 'Root checker' app from GOOGLE PLAYSTORE. Tap on Verify root access, it will ask for Superuser request - tap on Grant.
13) You should see the following message if you have rooted properly.
Remember, only root your device if you really need to. If you dont understand the concept of root, and if you're doing it without understanding the consequences, then its better you leave your phone as it is.
