Most Asus Zenfone screens are about 5" - 5.5", which means more information canbe displayed onto your screen right? But Asus keeps making the dpi settings on the zenfones to large which makes ZenUI look more bulky, Icons look big, texts mostly looks huge.

So, many Zenfone users often asks: "How do I lower the display size to actually fit more information on my screen". Ask no more! in this tutorial I will show you how to change your screen dpi in less than 10 minutes; You can do this without having to root your device. This tutorial targets most Lollipop and Marshmallow users (2nd generation zenfones mostly) since Android Nougat 7.0 already included an option to change your phone's dpi directly from the developer's option settings.

1. The first step is to install asd on your computer or laptop, the download link will be provided bellow.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0MKgCbUM0itSUhpUklCTFpzWkE/view

  • After the download finishes, click the file and Run it. An Open file-Security warning will prompt, click Run. Also a User Acount Control will appear then click Yes.

  • 15 seconds ADB installer will appear.

  • Press Y key /Yes to install ADB system-wide or N/No for current user onl
  • Press Y key/Yes to install Drivers or N/No to skip
  • After that, the Device driver Installation Wizard will appear, click next, Select the path where you want your adb software to be installed. Once finished, click Finish.

installation wizard window.

2. The second step is to enable USB debbuging on your device. Go to Settings > About > Software Information and simultaneously tap the Build Number until the Developer Options is enabled. Go back to the Settings and tap Developer Options. then turn USB Debugging "On".

3.The third step is to connect your Device to your computer/laptop using a usb connector. A notification will prompt asking you to Allow USB degugging for that computer, tap "Ok".

4.Now we're getting close, Open CMD(Command Prompt) on your computer/laptop and make sure you run it as an administrator by going to Start Menu, Type to search CMD(Command Prompt), right click and click on Run As Administrator. CMD will open.

                                                 5.png

5. The next step is to check if your computer/laptop recognizes your device by typing: adb devices. If nothing shows, check if the phone's USB debbuging is enabled or install the latest driver for your device.

checking if adb recognizes you device.

If the device is detected, resume and enter the following command to change your DPI.
(400 is the default dpi value of the Zenfone 2 Ze551ml in particular):

                                              adb shell wm density 350

and then press enter, my preferred value is 350 because the texts and the objects' sizes are just right. You can play around with it with what you like more but I think 350 is enough.

Lowering the device's dpi not only makes the User Interface look more premium but also it adds the functionality in taking advantage of your screen size by having to see more information on your display instead of just seeing a larger scale of objects. Here are some sample comparison of the default compared to having a lower dpi.

In addition to that, for you to achieve the smallest text possible; Go to your settings > display > font size and set it to small.

That's been pretty much it, Until my next post
