[BestDelegate Recommendations - 2]

Christopher Lai National Cheng Kung University
2014 PAMUN DISEC, Delegate of United States of America

“As a first-time MUNer then, PAMUN has provided me withthe best introduction to the MUN society”
The first time that I heard about Model United Nations iswhen I saw my friend at National Taiwan University post a photo on Facebook: hewas at Brussels, Belgium, participating in World MUN 2014. I have always had afond interest in issues that concern the world, being discussed in governmentsand the United Nations. Once I successfully transferred to NCKU and heard thatthey were recruiting WMUN members, I applied with no hesitation. As part of thetraining process, our captain required us to participate in PAMUN; and it has provedto be an unforgettable experience.
As a first time MUNer then, it took a lotof guts to apply for the largest and most competitive committee in PAMUN,containing both the experienced and newbies. This being said, the dais team dida truly fantastic job in moderating the committee sessions, guiding theinexperienced and leading the conference room in the right direction; resultingin heated discussions and debates between delegates. One big surprise was thatwe were able to go head-to-head against the experienced Yale-NUS students, which is one of the biggest highlights of this conference. You can say that noother MUN conference in Taiwan provides this kind of opportunity; I have bothlearned a lot from them and also the dais team: Alex, Scott, Afra, and Jennica.
Overall, Iwould strongly recommend delegates from all around Taiwan and in the Pan Asiaregion to participate in Pan Asia Model United Nations; not just experiencedMUNers, but also newcomers who wish to get to know MUN. Some say that MUN isjust for people who wish to hone their English skills and are willing toparticipate in diplomatic positions in the future. But I believe it’s more thanthat, MUN actually sums up the things we do in life: interacting with people, giving presentations and speeches, and also writing official documents, all ofwhich are essential skills that could be put into good use in the future. Myexperience in PAMUN 2014 has proved to be a sturdy stepping stone for me and Ibelieve that it will also provide for an invaluable experience for all thosewho participate.
