[Range Extender] How to Restore Your RP-AX50 Repeater Using Recovery Mode?

Introduction

This comprehensive guide outlines the step-by-step process for restoring your RP-AX50 repeater using its built-in Recovery Mode. This procedure is crucial when your device becomes unresponsive, suffers from corrupted firmware, or after an unsuccessful firmware update, enabling you to restore its functionality by uploading a stable firmware version.

Recovery Steps

Please follow these instructions carefully to recover your RP-AX50 repeater:

Step 1: Prepare Your PC and Establish a Wired Connection

Connect your PC directly to the RP-AX50 repeater using an Ethernet cable. Ensure your PC is configured with a static IP address within the 192.168.1.x subnet (e.g., http://192.168.1.10). Crucially, do not use 192.168.1.6, as this IP address is reserved for the repeater's recovery interface.

Step 2: Activate Recovery Mode

Locate the Reset button on your RP-AX50. Press and hold this button, then power on the device while continuing to hold the Reset button. Keep holding the Reset button for approximately 12 seconds, and then release it. The RP-AX50 should now enter Recovery Mode, indicated by only the PWR LED being steadily lit.

Step 3: Access the Recovery Web Interface

Open a web browser on your PC (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Edge) and type the IP address http://192.168.1.6 into the address bar. Press Enter. This action will direct you to the RP-AX50's Recovery Mode web page.

Step 4: Select Firmware File

On the Recovery Mode web page, locate and click the [Choose file] button.

Step 5: Upload Recovery Firmware

A file selection dialog will appear. Navigate to the location where you have saved the dedicated recovery firmware file for your RP-AX50, which is typically named fw_encrypt.aes, and select it. After successfully selecting the firmware file, click the [Upload] button to commence the firmware upload process to your RP-AX50.

Step 6: Finalize and Reboot

The web page will display a progress indicator or a countdown. Allow this process to complete fully. Once the countdown finishes, grant an additional two minutes for the RP-AX50 to automatically restart. Upon successful reboot, the recovery process is complete, and your device should be running with the newly flashed firmware.
