How to get API Keys
ASUS Zenni Claw connects to cloud AI providers using your own API keys. An API key is a private credential that lets the app send requests to a provider on your behalf, so treat it like a password and never share it. This appendix shows how to create a key for each supported provider and where to enter it in the app. Each provider bills per use, and most show the key only once, so copy it the moment it appears.
◉Note: Never paste an API key into a public file, email, or screenshot, and store it in a password manager. If a key is ever exposed, revoke it in the provider’s console and create a new one.
Google (Gemini) — Google AI Studio
- Open Google AI Studio at aistudio.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
- In the left sidebar, click Get API key to open the API keys page.
- Click Create API key, then select an existing Google Cloud project or let Studio create one. Keys made in AI Studio are automatically restricted to the Gemini API.
- Copy the key (it begins with AIza) and store it safely. The free tier covers the Gemini Flash models; Pro models and production volume require enabling billing in Google Cloud.
Anthropic (Claude) — Anthropic Console
- Go to console.anthropic.com and sign up or sign in. The console is separate from the Claude.ai app — an app subscription does not include API access.
- Open Settings → Billing and add a payment method. The API has no ongoing free tier, so a key returns errors until billing is set up.
- Click API Keys in the left sidebar, then Create Key, and give it a descriptive name.
- Copy the key (it begins with sk-ant-) immediately, as it is shown only once. If you lose it, revoke it and create a new one.
OpenAI (ChatGPT) — OpenAI Platform
- Go to platform.openai.com and sign up or sign in. This is separate from chatgpt.com — a ChatGPT subscription does not include API access. Phone verification may be required.
- Open Settings → Billing and add a payment method or prepaid credit. The API is pay-as-you-go and keys will not work without billing.
- Open Settings → API keys and click Create new secret key. Name it and, optionally, restrict it to a project or specific models.
- Copy the key (it begins with sk-, or sk-proj- for a project key) immediately, as OpenAI shows it only once.
Enter the key in ASUS Zenni Claw
- In the app, open the Models page (or the provider step during first-time setup), select the provider, paste the key into the API key field, and save. Once the key is validated, that provider’s models become available in Chat.
