[NUC] Issues after installing non-Asus signed firmware on NUC
Resolution
Asus doesn’t recommend patching/installing any unofficial (non-Asus signed) firmware to NUCs. Using unofficial firmware and/or modifying/updating firmware with an unofficial tool or method may damage the NUC and violate warranty terms.
Firmware is not like a driver that can be safely installed/uninstalled. Any firmware corruption may cause malfunction or even permanent damage to the system. To avoid that, only use the validated NUC firmware which is published on our Download Center.
If you have already installed a non-Asus signed Thunderbolt firmware on your NUC and now you are experiencing issues with the NUC functionality, try the following recovery steps:
- Return to the supported operating system
- Update the Thunderbolt™ firmware to the latest official version available for your product on Download Center.
- Update the Thunderbolt drivers available on Download Center (some NUCs may not have the Thunderbolt drivers).
- Update the BIOS to the latest available version using the BIOS recovery method.
- Try to clear CMOS.
If the above steps don't help that may mean that the system was permanently damaged by the unvalidated firmware. If you have further questions contact Customer support.
