[Accessories] Troubleshooting - External Keyboard Troubleshooting

When using an ASUS external keyboard, if you encounter button malfunction or unresponsive, please try the following troubleshooting.

Q&A:  If your keyboard is M703 ROG Falcata or M901 ROG AZOTH 96 HE, and you have replaced the magnetic switches, please perform a calibration and confirm key functionality again.

 

Partial or Complete Key Failure

    I. Check Keyboard Connection:      
    (Using the ROG AZOTH EXTREME M702 keyboard as an example)

Wired Connection        
1. Check the keyboard's connection switch to wired mode.        
       
2. If the problem persists, unplug and re-plug the USB cable. (You can also try with a different computer or USB port.)

 

Wireless Connection        
1. Check the keyboard's connection switch to wireless mode.        
       
2. If the problem persists, unplug and re-plug the USB dongle. (You can also try with a different computer or USB port.)

 

Bluetooth Connection        
1. Check the keyboard's connection switch to Bluetooth mode.        
       
2. Follow below steps to reconnect the Bluetooth device. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar at the bottom right of the desktop, then select [Show Bluetooth Devices].        
     
3. Find the corresponding keyboard, click it, and remove the device.        
     
4. Restart the computer. Then follow step 2 to click the Bluetooth button and select [Add a Bluetooth Device].        
     
5.  On the Bluetooth devices page, click [Add Device].        
     
6. On the [Add Device] page, select [Bluetooth], then choose your keyboard device to reconnect. After reconnecting, verify if the keyboard functions normally.

    II. Check Keyboard power      
    If the keyboard supports wireless or Bluetooth mode and the connection is confirmed to be working, please check the keyboard's power.

1. Refer to [ASUS Armoury Crate] Armoury Crate FAQ | Official Support | ASUS Global to install Armoury Crate.        
2. Open Armoury Crate from the Windows Start menu, select [Devices], then click the corresponding keyboard device icon.        
     
3. Click the [Power] interface to check the keyboard's battery level and ensure it is sufficiently charged.  

     
 

    III. Keyboard Reset        
    If the keyboard power and connection are normal, try resetting the keyboard to factory mode.

1.    Click the search icon in the upper-right corner of the ASUS Global, enter the keyboard model to access the keyboard's official website.        
     
2.    Select [Support] to enter the official support page.        
     
3. Select [Manual & Document] to open the Quick Start Guide.        
     
4.    Locate the [Factory Default] keyboard reset method and attempt the reset to see if the keys function normally.        
Please refer to the manual instructions, press and hold the Fn + Esc keys until the keyboard flashes green lights, then release. After completing the reset, check if the keys operate correctly.        
Note: Keyboard reset methods may vary by model. Refer to your specific keyboard model's Quick Start Guide for exact key combinations.


    IV. Keyboard Firmware Update        
    Updating keyboard software or firmware can optimize performance and resolve usage issues.        
    (Example: X901 STRIX SCOPE II 96 Wireless Keyboard)

1. Refer to steps 1 and 2 from the [Keyboard Reset] section above to access the product's [Support] page on the official website.        
2. Select [Drivers & Tools], then navigate to the [BIOS & Firmware] page. Download the FW update tool, launch it, and follow the prompts to perform the firmware update. After updating, confirm if the keyboard keys function normally.        
Notes:        
a. If your wireless keyboard requires a firmware update, refer to the [Check Connection Issues] section above. Switch the keyboard to wireless mode, connect it to your computer via the USB cable, and also connect the USB dongle to your computer at same time, and then perform the firmware update.        
b. If the official website does not provide a new firmware version for your keyboard, refer to the following [Armoury Crate Check and Update] section.

 

    V. Armoury Crate Check and Update

1. Refer to the [ASUS Armoury Crate] Armoury Crate FAQ | Official Support | ASUS Global to install Armoury Crate.        
2. Open Armoury Crate from the Windows Start menu, select [Settings], then choose [Update Center]. Click [Check for Updates], update all items to the latest versions, and confirm if the keyboard keys have returned to normal functionality.        
Note: If the wireless keyboard requires a firmware update, refer to the [Check Connection Issues] section above. Switch the keyboard to wireless mode, connect it to the computer via the USB cable, and also connect the USB dongle to your computer at same time, and then perform the firmware update.  

     
 

    VI. Reinstall Keyboard Driver

1. Right-click the Windows icon in the taskbar at the bottom and select [Device Manager].

     
2. Locate the keyboard, right-click [HID Keyboard Device], and select [Uninstall device].        
Note: If two [HID Keyboard Device] entries appear, uninstall both separately.        
     
3. Restart the computer. The system will automatically reinstall the driver. Then confirm if keyboard keys function normally.

 

    VII. Use the Keyboard Troubleshooter

1. From the [Start] menu, select [Settings], then choose [System]. Scroll down the page and find [Troubleshoot].        
    
2. In the Troubleshoot window, click [Other troubleshooters].         
    
3. Under the Keyboard section, click [Run].   

    
 

    VIII. Update the Motherboard BIOS, Windows, and Drivers to the Latest Versions        
    Updating BIOS, Windows, or drivers typically improves system stability and performance. We recommend regularly verifying your device uses the latest versions.

Unresponsive Keys

    I. Disable Sticky Keys        
    If pressing a key causes a brief delay before the character appears on screen, Sticky Keys may be enabled. Try disabling Sticky Keys and check if the issue improves.

1. From the [Start] menu, select [Settings], then choose [Accessibility]. Scroll down and find [Keyboard].        
    
2. Turn off the [Sticky Keys] feature and check if keyboard responsiveness returns to normal.   

    
 

    II. Adjust Key Repeat Delay        
    If pressing a key once results in two or more characters appearing on screen, try adjusting the key repeat delay.

1. Type [Control Panel] in the taskbar search bar and click [Open].        
    
2. Switch the [View by] mode in the top-right corner to [Large icons].        
    
3. Open [Keyboard], drag the [Repeat delay] slider to [Short], click [OK], and check if keyboard keys function normally.

A: Calibration steps (using M901 ROG AZOTH 96 HE as example):

1. Connect the keyboard to your computer via USB cable and set the switch to Wired mode.        
2. Open the Gear Link webpage at https://gearlink.asus.com, click Connect, then select ROG AZOTH 96 HE to establish the connection.        
    
3. Enter the Gear Link calibration interface.        
    
4. Select the key requiring calibration (with issues).        
For example, to calibrate the A key as shown below, click the A key. A white box will appear around the key.        
    
5. Press the key to be calibrated all the way down with normal force, hold it down, and click [Start].        
    
6. Release the key only after the calibration completion message appears, as shown below.
