[Chromebook] How to Set Up Fingerprint Recognition on Chromebook

Fingerprint recognition allows you to quickly unlock your Chromebook, replacing traditional password entry and providing enhanced convenience and security. This article will guide you through the process of setting up fingerprint recognition on your Chromebook. You can use your fingerprint to unlock the Chromebook or log in to websites and apps that support fingerprint authentication.

Please note that you can only use your password in the following scenarios:

  • When your Chromebook restarts
  • When the fingerprint sensor fails to recognize your fingerprint after multiple attempts
  • When switching to another user on the same device
  • After 48 hours for personal Chromebooks
  • After 12 hours for managed Chromebooks

Set up your Fingerprint

This feature is only available on Chromebooks with a fingerprint sensor. To set up fingerprint recognition, locate the fingerprint sensor and ensure you are signed in to your Google account.

Note: The fingerprint sensor is typically located near the keyboard. If unsure, refer to your User Manual for guidance.

  1. Click the [Status Bar]in the lower-right corner of the screen, then click [Settings].
  2. In Settings, click [Security and Privacy], then select [Lock screen and sign-in].
  3. Enter your Google account password to configure security and sign-in, then click [Confirm].
  4. Under the Edit Fingerprints option, click [Set up].
  5. Click [Add Fingerprint]to begin creating your fingerprint data.
  6. Ensure your finger is clean and dry, then touch the fingerprint sensor with a single finger.
  7. Follow the on-screen prompts to repeatedly lift and place your finger until the system completes recognition.
  8. Once fingerprint setup is successful, click [Done].
  9. After completing fingerprint setup, you can also click [Add Fingerprint]to set up fingerprint recognition for another finger.

Delete your Fingerprint

  1. Click the [Status Bar]in the lower-right corner of the screen, then click [Settings].
  2. In Settings, click [Security and Privacy], then select [Lock screen and sign-in].
  3. Enter your Google account password to configure security and sign-in, then click [Confirm].
  4. Under the Edit Fingerprints option, click [Set up].
  5. Locate the fingerprint you want to delete, then click the [Delete] icon next to it.
