[SSD Enclosure] Is it normal for the ROG STRIX AIOLOS back cover to be less than perfectly flush or to have a slight amount of play when no SSD is installed?

Yes. This is a normal result of our [ Dynamic Fit Design].

It is a deliberate engineering choice to ensure the ROG STRIX AIOLOS is [Future-Ready].

By reserving micro-level clearance—which may manifest as a slightly loose back cover or slight movement before assembly—we guarantee compatibility with various SSD brands, single/double-sided layouts, and different thicknesses.

Once the SSD and thermal pads are installed, the gap is perfectly bridged for a flush, secure fit.

This eliminates the risk of crushing delicate components or scratching the SSD surface, common in tighter, one-size-fits-all enclosures.
