Fremont, California (April 8, 2020) - ASUS today announced a partnership with High School Esports League (HSEL), the largest competitive gaming organization serving high school students and teachers, on an upcoming charity gaming tournament, the “Social Distancing Cup,” to support communities nationwide affected by COVID-19. The free online charity competition will be hosted by HSEL’s Generation Esports – a newly launched community-focused esports organization and tournament platform for competitors of all ages – from April 10 to May 10, 2020 with a $30,000 USD prize pool for winning participants, including college scholarships, cash as well as gaming gear and vouchers from ASUS.

Launched today, Generation Esports expands the original charter of High School Esports League to positively impact multiple communities — from individual players, students in middle school to college, active duty military and veterans, corporate, adult and/or youth organizations, and more. To kick off its launch, Generation Esports — in partnership with non-profit partner Varsity Esports Foundation (VEF) — will host the Social Distancing Cup to engage with esports competitors who are isolating themselves or quarantined because of the COVID-19 pandemic and fundraise for low-income families during this time of need.

The Social Distancing Cup kicks off on April 10th

Beginning April 10, 2020, the Social Distancing Cup is a four-week-long tournament series open to the continental U.S. featuring competitive matches in League of Legends, Rocket League, and Teamfight Tactics. The Social Distancing Cup has a $30,000 USD prize pool, featuring additional winnable goods from ASUS Republic of Gamers and TUF Gaming laptops, hardware, and merchandise. More information and free registration to the Social Distancing Cup is available at https://www.generationesports.com/social-distancing-cup.

ASUS, Generation Esports and VEF encourage participants, as well as esports fans and organizations, to donate as little as $5-$25 USD to the “Social Distancing Cup COVID-19 Response Fund” to support low-income families suffering during this unprecedented global crisis. All donations are tax-deductible and can be made here: https://www.varsityesportsfoundation.org/social-distancing-cup.

ASUS is more than just hardware. Since 2006, ROG has played an active role in the global gaming community through partnerships at events and with gaming personalities and organizations, with the goal of fostering greater gaming experiences for all. In addition to ROG, ASUS recently launched its TUF Gaming brand, offering products created for gamers who demand superior durability, dependable stability and exceptional value in PC gaming.

“Supporting our communities is a huge part of our ASUS DNA,” said Yen Hoang, senior manager of brand marketing at ASUS North America. “We’re humbled to be able to contribute to HSEL and Generation Esports’ cause and benefit the communities that need it most by bringing together gamers, fans and their families through gaming and friendly competition.”
