 ROG XREAL R1 gaming AR glasses, featuring a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.01ms response time, can display a 171-inch large screen and 57° field of view at a distance of 4 meters,

Native 3DoF hovering mode, real-time 3D, electrochromic dimming lenses, Sound by Bose, DisplayWidget Center and HDR, and the included ROG Control Dock base,

一.Which devices are compatible with ROG XREAL R1 glasses

*If your main device does not have a compatible USB Type-C (DP Alt Mode) or Thunderbolt™ 4 port, you can connect the glasses using the included ASUS control base (with DisplayPort and HDMI video output).

 

二. R1 Glasses Function Description

A. The built-in micro-OLED display offers Full HD resolution.

B. Adjustable nose pads allow your glasses to be comfortably worn at the right height for optimal viewing angle.

(Note: If the pre-installed nose pads are uncomfortable or not at the correct height and cannot provide the best viewing angle, you can replace them with other sizes included in the package.)

C. The prescription lens mount point allows you to install a detachable frame for your custom corrective lenses, providing a clear AR viewing experience.

D. The built-in speakers provide an immersive audio experience without the need for external headphones or earphones.

E. USB Type-C® port This port allows you to connect compatible devices with a USB Type-C port, such as smartphones, PCs, and gaming consoles.

F. Built-in microphone The built-in microphone captures clear audio for calls and voice commands, enabling convenient hands-free communication.

 

R1 connection methods for various host devices

You can connect the glasses to various host devices, such as laptops, smartphones, and handheld gaming consoles. For laptops, you need a Thunderbolt™ 4 port or a USB Type-C port that supports video signal output via DP Alt Mode. Similarly, for smartphones and handheld gaming consoles, you need a USB Type-C port that supports video signal output via DP Alt Mode.

The glasses will automatically turn on after connecting, and will automatically turn off after unplugging the USB cable.

 

Connect to smartphone

1.Connect the angled end of the included USB cable to the USB Type-C port on the glasses.                                                    
                                                  
 

2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB Type-C port on your smartphone.                                                   
                                                  
Note: To use the glasses with your smartphone, the smartphone's USB Type-C port must support DP (DisplayPort) output function.

 

Connect to a laptop or handheld game console

1. Connect the right-angle end of the included USB cable to the USB Type-C port on the glasses. 2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB Type-C port on your laptop or handheld gaming console.

 

R1 Glasses Wearing Instructions

1. Hold the temples of the glasses with both hands.       
2. Put on the glasses as shown in the illustration, making sure the temples fit comfortably on your ears.                                                    

3. Tilt or adjust the position of the glasses on your face until the screen is directly aligned with your eyes.                                                   
                                                  
4. Keep adjusting the glasses until you achieve the best viewing angle. If necessary, please refer to the "Adjusting the Nose Pad" section for further adjustment of the nose pad.             

                              

R1 Glasses Button Instructions
-Power On and Off

When your glasses are connected to a compatible device using the included USB cable, they will automatically turn on. To turn off your glasses, unplug the USB cable.

-Basic Controls

The button functions described in this section apply only during normal use, that is, when the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu is not displayed. When the menu is displayed, these buttons are used for navigation, selection, and closing the menu.

Note: If you have connected the glasses to the ROG Control Dock, navigation controls will automatically switch to the Control Dock.

B. Current top-level menu Displays the name of the current top-level menu.

C. Menu items or submenus Displays available menu options for the selected top-level menu, or nested submenus.

D. Current menu item settings Displays the current settings of the listed menu items. If a menu item does not display settings, select it to open its adjustment screen.

E. Previous menu Displays the name of the previous menu.

F. Selection indicator Shows the currently selected menu or menu item (highlighted in red or shown in red text).

G. Page indicator Shows the current page and total number of pages in this menu.

H. Return to top prompt A prompt indicating you can return to the top of the current menu.

I. On-screen button guide Use the on-screen button guide to view the function of each physical button in the current screen.

Note: Using the on-screen button guide allows you to quickly identify which physical button is being pressed in the current menu and its function.

 

三. Base instructions

If your host device does not have a compatible USB Type-C (DP Alt Mode) or Thunderbolt™ 4 port, please use the included ROG control base to transmit video from a supported DP or HDMI™ port to the glasses. The control base also allows you to connect multiple host devices and switch between them without repeatedly plugging and unplugging cables.  

ROG Control Base Overview 

                                                  

A. Power Button Press the power button to turn your control base on or off.

B. Joystick Navigation Button Use the joystick navigation button (+) to navigate the OSD menu and select menu settings.

C. Exit Button Use the exit button to close the menu. When the menu is closed, pressing this button enables or disables the [Frame Rate Boost] feature.

D. Indicator (LED) The red indicator shows the current detected connection status, including active video input, as well as the status of USB power input and data transfer.

E. USB Type-C Port (Video Output) Used to connect your glasses to the control base. This port outputs video from the control base to the glasses.

F. HDMI Port (Video Input) Used to connect an HDMI source device (such as a desktop computer, laptop, or game console) to send video to the control base.

G. DisplayPort (video input) is used to connect a DisplayPort source device (such as a desktop computer, laptop, or gaming console) to transmit video to the control dock.

H. USB 2.0 Type-C port (power input and data) is used to connect the host device to the control dock to provide power and USB data to your glasses.

I. USB Type-C port (power input) is used to connect power to the control dock, providing additional power to the control dock.  

 

The dock connects to the host device

Connect the host device to the control dock via DisplayPort (DP) or HDMI for video transmission.      
Use one of the two included USB (Type-A to Type-C) cables to connect the host device to the control dock for power and data supply.      
Use the other included USB (Type-A to Type-C) cable to connect power to the control dock, ensuring an adequate power supply.

 

                                                 

Dock connection method for glasses

Connect the angled end of the USB cable that comes with the glasses to the USB Type-C port on the glasses.                                                  
Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB Type-C port on the front panel of the control dock.                                                  
       
Note: When your glasses are connected to the ROG control dock, all navigation controls will automatically switch to the control dock.

 

Dock Power On/Off Methods

Power On

When the rear USB Type-C port is connected to a powered host device, your control dock will automatically power on; or, it will also automatically power on when one port is connected to the host device and the other is connected to the USB-C DC power input.       
 

Shut Down

To turn off the control dock, please press and hold the power button for at least three seconds. To turn it back on, press the power button.

A. Top-level menu: Displays the top-level menu.

How to switch the video input on the dock (main device)

If multiple main devices are connected to the control dock, the LED indicator on the top of the control dock will show which video input source is currently in use.             

How to switch video input:

1. Double-click to open the Dock main menu.       
2. Use to move to "Input Selection", then press .       
3. Select the video input you want to use, then press the key to confirm.

*You can only switch to an input source with an active video signal. Inputs without a signal cannot be selected.       
*By default, the shortcut key will also open the "Input Selection" menu unless you have reassigned it in "Dock main menu" > "My Favorites" > "Shortcuts".

 

四. Questions and Answers

Question 1. How to check the product serial number?

Answer 1: When registering the product, please check the serial number at the bottom of the product's outer box.

Question 2. Why can't the buttons on the glasses operate the OSD after connecting the Dock?

Answer 2: When the glasses are connected to the Dock, the buttons on the glasses cannot control the OSD (on-screen display).

At this time, operation will be taken over by the five-way key of the ROG Control Dock, providing complete control functions. This is the current design of the product in Dock mode, centralizing operation on the Dock to ensure a stable and consistent user experience.
